    The Lansing Lions will be hosting their annual Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, March 11, 2018 from 7:30 to 11:30 am at the Lansing Community Center, 29 Auburn Rd., Lansing, NY 14882.  Breakfast includes pancakes with real maple syrup, sausage, scrambled eggs, home fries, juice, coffee, tea and hot chocolate.  Adults $7.00, Children 6-12 $5.00, and children under 6 are free.  All proceeds benefit community projects and the scholarship fund for graduating seniors.

    The Young Adult Group at the Cancer Resource Center of the Finger Lakes (www.crcfl.net) meets the second and fourth Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. at the CRC house: 612 W. State St., in Ithaca. If you are between the ages of 20 and 40ish, at any stage of any type of cancer, whether you’re just diagnosed, undergoing treatment, or in recovery, we’d love to have you join us.

    The Lenten play “Lord, Is It I?” by Ernest K. Emurian will be presented in the Lansing United Methodist Church sanctuary at 7:30p.m. Following the play, Holy Communion will be served. “Lord, Is It I?” is set in the upper room as Leonardo da Vinci portrayed it in his painting The Last Supper. Each disciple reflects on his life with Jesus and ponders Jesus’ statement that one of them will betray him. A nursery will be provided for young children.

    Julie Schumacher (MFA Cornell 1986) is the author of nine books, including the national bestseller Dear Committee Members, winner of the Thurber Prize for American Humor. She is the only woman to have won the Thurber Prize. Schumacher’s first novel, The Body Is Water, was an ALA Notable Book of the Year and a finalist for the PEN/Hemingway Award, and her essays and short stories have appeared in The Atlantic, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Chronicle for Higher Education. Most recently, she is the author of Doodling for Academics – a Coloring and Activity Book, and of the forthcoming novel The Shakespeare Requirement. She directs the Creative Writing Program at the University of Minnesota.

    Radiance Meditation at The Yoga Farm

    At Yoga Farm, we teach meditation for householders—people who live in the world, who have relatioships, jobs, families, houses, and to-do lists.

    In this weekly session, we work with a new Sutra from the book 'The Radiance Sutras' by Lorin Roche. Each Sutra is a beautiful exploration of one of the 'gateways' to meditation.

    From 8-8:15am we read, discuss and explore a Sutra, then we enjoy silent meditation  together until about 8:45. 

    This offering is FREE to the Public.

    Cayuga Nature Center’s Maple Fest!

    Pancake breakfast, live music, vendors, and education activities for all ages! Come on Saturday the 17th feast on wonderful pancakes, maple syrup, apple crisp, sausage, Copper Horse coffee, and orange juice. Breakfast will be served from 9 am-1 pm, activities run from 10 am-2 pm. At noon, Brian Chabott from Cornell will give a talk on "Maple and Climate". There will be a sugaring demonstration at our sugar shack, and live animal programs with our Animal Ambassadors at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. There will be live music from Technicolor Trailer Park, Tyler Hubbard & Friends, and DnT. Cayuga Creamery and Sapsquatch Pure Maple Syrup will be on hand selling their delicious products. All proceeds benefit the Cayuga Nature Center’s mission and educational programming.

    Member Price: $10 Adults, $5 kids, 3 and under Free, $25 Family up to 5 people.

    Wellspring Forest Farm Hosts Maple Weekend March 17 & 18

    As part of the New York Maple Producers Association statewide Maple Weekend, Wellspring Forest Farm, located 12 miles West of Ithaca and 12 miles East of Watkins Glen, will be open to the public on Saturday March 17th and Sunday March 18th with a range of events for the whole family. Admission is FREE to all events, except the mushroom workshop on Sunday.

     

    On Saturday, March 17, visitors are welcome from 10am to 4pm, with

    * Guided tours of the sugarbush at 11:30am, 12:30pm, 1:30pm, and 2:30pm.

    *Tastings and sales of maple sap, maple syrup, and maple cake balls!

    * Live Music from Travis Knapp (10am – 12pm) and Better Weather String Band (12pm on)

    * Wood-fired pizzas from the Rusty Oven and Hot Dogs, Sausages, and Pulled Pork sandwiches from the Piggery

    * A farm and craft market featuring local artisans including the Finger Lakes Cider House, Cayuta Sun Farm, Acorn Designs, BeeSpoke Apothecary, and Ort Family Farm.

    *Shiitake log inoculation to benefit the Groundswell Center for Local Food & Farming.

     

    On Sunday March 18, events will be more low-key, with the farm open from 10am – 4pm for more casual visitors (no scheduled tours). We may or may not be boiling but will have samples available.

    Foodnet Meals on Wheels is thrilled to announce the 5th Annual Mac 'n Cheese Bowl competition! Mark your calendars for Saturday, March 17 from 11:30am - 2:00pm at the Ithaca High School Cafeteria.

    Foodnet provides over 700 daily meals to 400 older adults, and others in Tompkins County. Our services offer nutritious meals, friendly visits, and safety checks so our neighbors live without hunger and isolation. The event proceeds will go towards furthering the Foodnet mission, so our participants can continue to count on us for their meals and more!

    19 local restaurants and vendors will be whipping up their version of everyone's favorite comfort food. Come for the tastings, live music, raffles and more!

All proceeds will be used to support Tompkins Learning Partners, a LiteracyNY affiliated non-profit organization, which provides literacy tutoring, free of charge, for over 100 adults in our community.

     

    Ithaca's Puzzlemaster Adam Perl will once again create three original crosswords for the event. Individuals, or teams of up to four, are invited to compete for prizes in one of three levels of difficulty. This year’s event will include a silent auction, a 10 minute hilarious play (about puzzles), other games, raffles, drawings, and more. Also, for the first time, we will have separate competitions for “Middle Scholars,” (6th-8th grades) and High Scholars,” (9th-12th grades.)”

    The recommended pre-registration fee for adults is $50 per person, or $150 for a team of four, but thanks to generous supporters, we are again offering all players to “Pay what you can comfortably afford.”
