“Business Entity Selection – Legal and Accounting Issues”

Structuring a business is very complicated and many issues must be taken into consideration at the front end to avoid time-consuming and costly consequences in the future.  Among other factors, the decision of whether to use a corporation, LLC, or partnership when organizing a business entity usually focuses on how the entity and its owners will be taxed.  This seminar will provide an overview of the different types of business entities and analyze the financial aspects of entity structuring, including tax issues related to capital structure and compensation.

 

Buddy Lesavoy, Partner with Lesavoy Butz & Seitz, LLC since 2007, concentrates his practice in business, corporate and real estate matters, working with many family and closely-held businesses in the Lehigh Valley.  He handles business start-ups, mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, business succession planning and real estate matters. 

 

Buddy was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court in 1990, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania in 1989, the United States Tax Court in 1989 and the Supreme Court of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 1987.  He earned his J.D. in 1987, his M.B.A. in 1982, and B.B.A. in 1980 from George Washington University.

 

Martin Levin, managing director of Regan, Levin, Bloss, Brown & Savchak, P.C., and senior partner, is responsible for the firm’s audit and accounting practices   Martin’s expertise includes working with a diverse mix of clients.  In addition, he has a broad background in providing management consulting services including forensic accounting, bankruptcy accounting, strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, litigation support and more.  Martin has been qualified as an expert witness in numerous Court proceedings.

 

Martin is a member of the American, Pennsylvania and Florida Institutes of CPAs, as well as the Virginia Society of CPA’s.  He is a past president of the Lehigh Valley Chapter of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA).  In 2007, Governor Rendell appointed him to a four-year term on the Pennsylvania State Board of Accountancy where he currently holds the position of Vice Chairman.
