Lawyers and law firms know that succession planning is important for stability, continuity, and success. However, the actual planning and implementation often get put on the shelf, never to be addressed.
This program will offer some tips and ideas on succession planning for law firms of all sizes from solos to larger firms. In addition to these tips, the program will discuss how legal recruiting is instrumental for effective succession planning.
Jennifer Gillman, President of Gillman Strategic Group, founded the company so she could focus solely on the candidate side of law firm partner placement. Jenn works with successful law firm partners or groups who have their own clients and a significant amount of portable business but have realized that their law firm is the wrong fit for them – an issue preventing them from best serving their clients.
A recovering lawyer herself, Jennifer received her law degree from New York University School of Law in 1996 and her undergraduate degree from Brandeis University, magna cum laude, in 1993. She began her legal career as a litigation associate at Sills Cummis & Gross, spent many years practicing employment law at Littler Mendelson’s New York office and was in-house with a former client for two years.
In 2009, Jennifer finally realized that legal recruiting combined her two passions of law and matchmaking (she’s responsible for two marriages) and joined a well-regarded full-service legal recruiting firm in New Jersey. During her almost ten years at the firm, Jennifer gradually changed her focus to partner search so she could become a ‘law firm matchmaker’.
