Stacking Rings

Date: Tuesday, February 5, 2019

Time: 6:00-9:30pm

Cost:  $70 + HST (includes material fees)


Learn the basics of ring forming, ring blank sizing, and torch soldering. In this workshop, you'll create a set of rings that can be worn either individually or together as a stack. Use your creativity to design a set of stacking rings to take home – consider a hammered texture or a smooth, polished finish, and perhaps soldering on your own embellishments to some (or all) of your rings!
Techniques/Topics Covered: Torch Soldering Basics, Annealing and Work Hardening, Ring Forming, Ring Blank Sizing

Meet the Instructor: Joyce Lam

Joyce’s formal background is in Mechanical Engineering, with a special interest in Materials Engineering. She began her career working as an automotive engineer for six years.

She started learning jewellery making and metalsmithing after taking an interest in jewellery design and fabrication. She got into the field by taking courses at local studios focusing on jewellery making & metalsmithing techniques, and by self-learning through blogs & videos and practicing at her home workshop. She enjoys creating new designs and handcrafting fun & unique jewellery pieces, and is focused on personal growth, continued learning, and constant technical improvement.

Realizing that jewellery making is her passion, she is excited to utilize her engineering background in the jewellery fabrication world. It is her goal to share her passion with others by creating a space with a friendly, supportive, and enthusiastic atmosphere!
