I had two events set for 5/28/17:
Release: Commissions 2017.2 - Development (Targeted)
Release: Workflow 2017.2 - Sandbox (Targeted)

A customer set reminders for both events. On 5/18/17, I changed the events to 6/18/17. The customer received reminder emails on 5/27/17 for both events. The reminders should move with the change in the event date, correct? I can send the reminder emails if that helps.

Reminders set on an event are updated when the event is updated.
Reminders set ad-hoc by visitors viewing events on your public calendar are not updated.

I know it's not ideal under all circumstances, but this issue gets very complicated very quickly where repeating events are concerned (since it's almost impossible to tell where an edited event has "moved", and which occurrence the visitor should now be notified about with 100% certainty)

Just to be clear, reminders that the admin sets on the Add Event/Edit Event page change with the event date change, but reminders set by users - the ones who actually need the reminders - are not changed. My best path, then, is to copy the event to the new date and delete the original event, removing the reminders. Is that correct?

Often, the people on the event itself actually need the reminders too (and many users have distribution groups they add to events)

What I call the "anonymous public users" (those people who view your calendar, but you have no idea who they are) can set reminders, but these reminders are on a "best effort" basis. If you delete an event for example, they won't get a notification the event has been cancelled.

If you have a user community that you have any contact with whatsoever, they you would be better off asking them to either add themselves (or let you add) them to an email DG (that you put on your events), so they always get reminders before an event.

Thanks for your explanation about this Marc, and fielding this at a late hour on Friday. Adding users to an email DG is not practical since we have about a thousand customers and untold number of people potentially using our Localendar instances. The email that our customer received was sent based on the old event date, but the text of the email cited the new date. That seems to mean that the event object is still being referenced by the scheduled reminder. We would like to recommend rescheduling user-submitted reminders for changed events as a feature.

No need to suggest it - we'd like to do it smile
The challenge is just figuring out how to have it work for repeating events and make sense... Possibly we could start by trying it for non-repeating events which should be less of a problem (of course, when a non-repeating event is changed to a repeating one..or vice versa, the complexities resurface)
