For years we have used Google Maps for providing maps for localendar events. However, they have recently changed their pricing policies and other guidelines. Because of this, we have moved event maps from Google Maps to OpenStreetMap. For the time being, if you click "Directions To Here" or "From Here" on a map, we are still using Google. I find that most of the location map links in my events no longer work – they bring up blank pages. This is true of most of my events, going back many months (they all worked in the past with Goole Maps). The occasional one does bring up an OpenStreetMap, but I need them all to work! |

There is now an error message if an address cannot be parsed. I notice that you used "55 Queen St, Stratford, ON N5A 4M9, Canada" for example on one event. It appears that while that address cannot be successfully mapped (and there is now a message to that effect, thank you) that "55 Queen St, Stratford, ON, Canada" does work. I am curious if that is an acceptable map for your event? You can test an address to see if it works here: https://nominatim.openstreetmap.org/ We are not limited to using the site above for converting from a street address to a map latitude/longitude, so we will monitor this issue to see if there are better alternative providers. After a brief exchange by email, Matt Olgins (Support Associate) let me know of the following measure: "We've added some other geocode providers to the mix to try and resolve the address better than 1 provider alone." These additions appear to have successfully addressed my issue, and I'm very grateful for the prompt and effective response. David Beattie |

Hi, I am experiencing more problems with entering locations for mapping. As soon as I begin entering any address (immediately after the first character), a box pops up saying "This page can't load Google maps correctly", and it won't save any address. Why is Google maps still relevant? Why can't any address be entered that will work? Where did OpenStreetMap go? |

Getting the same error message . . . If I hit OK, it lets me put in the address but it does not save it? If Google Maps is no longer being used, when will a replacement be linked? In the process of updating 2019 events and cannot put in the address. |

We are no longer using Google for the actual map, but we were/are still using their geocoding service (the code that translates a street address into a lat/long) The reason why we still relied on Google is earlier in this thread: We found some geocoding alternatives were less reliable than Google and led to bad event maps when the lat/long was displayed with OpenStreetMap. However, now that Google has changed some of their terms of service and billing arrangements, we are forced to try other alternatives. After some additional testing, we have decided to remain with Google's geocoding API for now. No, weather should still appear. We source that from 2 different sources.
