Dreaming the Stone: Arabian Nights Sunday Feb 9 (All Day)Jay Leeming brings performance storytelling to the Cherry as part of the monthly “Dreaming the Stone” series! Leeming renders tales for diverse audiences, often weaving them together with live music. The words of the stories are improvised anew with each telling in response to the inspiration of the moment and the nature of the audience. Leeming has spent years telling stories in classrooms and libraries, as well as to adult audiences in theaters and National Parks. The creator of the Crane Bag Storytelling Podcast, he is the author of two books of poetry and the recipient of a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. Kids Fix Workshop Saturday Feb 15 2 pm - 3 pm Ithaca ReUse CenterFinger Lakes ReUse will host a Kids Fix Workshop at the Ithaca ReUse Center (214 Elmira Road, Ithaca, NY) on Saturday, February 15th from 2:00 – 3:00 PM.
Volunteers from the Ithaca Fixers Collective, a volunteer-run repair group, will help children ages 5 & up fix toys, small electronics, or any other item that they bring in in need of repair. There will also be hands-on demonstrations on the use of basic tools and kids will have a chance to take things apart. Volunteers from the Ithaca Fixers Collective hope to encourage children to think about the material value of their toys and show them that there are other options beyond the landfill when something breaks or wears down. This workshop is free and open to everyone, no registration necessary. Parental supervision is required.
The Ithaca Fixers Collective regularly meets on Saturdays from 3:00-5:00 pm at the Ithaca ReUse Center. Attendees to the Kids Fix Workshop, offered directly before the regularly scheduled Fixers session, are welcome to stay past the event’s 3:00 pm end-time to continue fixing.
Creative ReUse events are made possible by generous support from the Tompkins County Recycling and Materials Management Division and the Park Foundation.
