    Rejoice the Vote

    Thursday Apr 2
    7 pm - 9 pm

    Tompkins County Public Library

Mark you calendars for "Rejoice the Vote" on April 2nd at 7 PM, in the Borg Warner Room, Tompkins County Public Library. Tompkins County League of Women Voters will present Rejoice the Vote speaker and Founder Jeff Furman. Jeff Furman, a long time resident of Ithaca, served on Ben & Jerry's corporate board for 40 years and 10 years as Chair.

"Rejoice the Vote" aims to strengthen democracy by changing the culture of voting from a chore to a joyful celebration.
"Rejoice the Vote" has developed a three pronged approach which includes:
    1. Honoring the past by identifying the "Voting Vanguards", those who dedicated their lives to voting rights.

    2. Celebrating the present by enrolling cities throughout the US in "The Votingest City Challenge", a light-hearted competition to see which city gets the most eligible voters to the polls.

    3. Looking toward the future with "By a Show of Hands" which promotes early education and participation in school-based elections from elementary to high school.

Come and hear Jeff tell us more about these efforts, why he decided to found Rejoice the Vote, and be prepared to become more enthusiastic and re-engaged in our democratic process!

Refreshments will include ice cream courtesy of Ben&Jerry's.

Jeff Furman served on the Ben & Jerry’s corporate board for almost 40 years, providing in-house legal counsel and fostering many of the company’s social initiatives. Jeff’s current role is Ben & Jerry’s Board of Directors Emeritus, alongside being President of the Ben & Jerry’s Foundation. Jeff resides in Ithaca, NY and is co-founder of the Community Dispute Resolution center and Social Ventures. Currently he is an advisor to the Dorothy Cotton Institute, Alliance of Families for Justice, and the Economic Hardship Reporting Project. Alongside his other commitments, he is on the Board of the Oakland Institute and is involved in democracy initiatives including REJOICE THE VOTE.
