Ithaca Children & Youth Chorus Placement Auditions and NEW INTERGENERATIONAL ENSEMBL

    Thursday Aug 29
    3 pm - 4 pm

Community School of Music and Arts
330 E State St, Ithaca, NY 14850, USA

The Ithaca Children & Youth Chorus will be holding placement auditions for Fall 2019 at the Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA, 330 E. MLK/State St, Ithaca) on Thursday August, 29th and Tuesday, September 3rd from 3:00-6:00 pm. Children that participated last school year do NOT need to re-audition, but if you have younger or older siblings, friends from school or other activities you participate in, we would LOVE to have them join us this fall. New faces are ALWAYS welcome! Children interested in joining Dolce Choir (ages 5 and 6) need not audition and any singer interested in our brand new intergenerational ensemble, Ancora, need not audition.   Auditions are brief (approximately 10 minutes) and consist of a little vocalizing, some pitch memory exercises, and some basic harmony exercises. We aim to make auditioning a very low-key and comfortable experience for all singers.
Every year, as a parent of two children at Northeast Elementary, I have had parents ask me, "My child loves to sing! When can I have them start voice lessons?" My answer has always been, "The best thing you can do for your child that loves to sing is to get them singing with a really great choir." Minimum age for participation is 5, but our ensembles go right up through middle and high school and beyond. The rehearsal schedule is as follows:   Mondays, 5:00-6:30 pm, Chorale (typically age 13 and up), directed by Katie O'Connor-Ballantyne
Mondays, 4-5 pm, Intermezzo (typically ages 9-13), directed by Sarah Smokay Linfors
Tuesdays, 5:30pm-6:30pm, Ancora (all ages), directed by Katie O'Connor-Ballantyne and Emily Richards
Wednesday, 3:30-4:30 pm, Dolce, (ages 5-7), directed by Emily Richards
Wednesday, 4:30-5:30 pm, Prelude, (ages 7-9), directed by Emily Richards *We hope to ADD a young men's ensemble this year for boys with changed voices. We would especially like to encourage them to audition!!
An ensemble of The Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA), the Ithaca Children and Youth Chorus (ICYC), was founded in 1983. ICYC is a nationally recognized youth program for beginning to advanced singers ages 5-18, committed to excellence and offering an environment of support and cooperation. Students sing an internationally and culturally diverse repertoire of the highest caliber in this year-long program under the artistic direction of Kathleen O'Connor-Ballantyne.
