Thinking about climate change and its impacts is not usually fun, but exploring maps and data is! We’ll explore resources on the New York Climate Change Science Clearinghouse (https://nyclimatescience.org/), a portal to climate change information for New York State.  The Clearinghouse was developed to help local governments make scientifically sound decisions, but the maps and data available on it can be interesting and useful to teachers, students, researchers, and the general public.  We’ll explore some maps and data together and hopefully learn something about climate change along the way.

    Eco-Explorers - Aging a Deer (Ages 4+)

    Saturday Oct 24
    10 am - 11 am

    Cayuga Nature Center
1420 Taughannock Blvd, Ithaca, NY 14850, USA

Have you lost a tooth? Maybe an adult tooth is growing in? Do you know anyone that might have dentures even? Teeth are important tools for all animals, not just humans. We’ll look at types of teeth and what that means about that animal's diet. At the end you’ll take a look at a deer’s teeth and see if we can tell how old that deer was.

Programs led by a CNC educator are offered every week. All children under 15 must have an adult present. We'll be using specimens from our education collection and tools for exploration, then head to the woods to put into action what we learned. We suggest wearing high socks or pants, to help with preventing ticks since this program does go out on the trails. Don't forget to register all adults in attendance.

Our fall series is focused on habitats, animals and the world around us here in Ithaca. Feel free to come to one program or come to all!

Our programs are under a "pay-what-you-can" model. All funds raised will help our education department continue their work at the Cayuga Nature Center.

    Register here!

Across all of these opportunities, social distancing and masks are required to comply with our current health policies.
