Dodo Walk (Dover to Dorking). Stage 3. Westenhanger to Kingsnorth

Apr 20, 2019
(General)

Hi all

The next stage of the Dodo walk (from Dover to Dorking) will be on Easter Saturday 20 April.

This stage will be from Westenhanger to Kingsnorth.

The walk is about 14 miles with no drop-out points. It's a demanding walk through some interesting and varied countryside with some good views and a deer park (contains deer).

You need a sense of adventure and a sense of humour if we get a bit lost. Some of the paths are obscure or unmarked so it will be navigationally challenging. There are also some tricky stiles in prickly hedges. We may have to go through someone's garden.

Bring a packed lunch and maybe a snack in case of emergencies. There is a pub at the end right next to a bus stop with buses down the road to Ashford station at 16.55, 17.36, 17.55, 18.24 (journey time 10 mins).

Meet 10.10am on the platform at Westenhanger station. You must be in the front 4 carriages as Westenhanger has a short platform. There are no facilities at the station so please use loos on the train. Whatever you do, buy a return to Westenhanger.

Take the 8.40am train from Charing Cross to Westenhanger (front 4 carriages). This train calls at Waterloo East 8.43am and London Bridge 8.49am.

Alternatively take the 9.09am High Speed train from St Pancras and change at Ashford for Westenhanger (front 4 carriages). This train calls at Stratford International 9.16am.

A further alternative is to take the 8.25am train from Victoria and change at Ashford for Westenhanger (front 4 carriages). This train calls at Bromley South 8.42am.

Return trains from Ashford to Charing X at 02 & 32 mins past the hour, Victoria at 05 & 33 mins past the hour and St Pancras at 16 & 43 mins past the hour.
