Embedded Calendar not showing event popups anymore
OnMidway Cafe, we have an embedded version of our calendar. On localendar.com, the events pop up as expected, but on the embedded version, the only ones that allow for a change of any type are the ones with "Buy Tickets" links on them.
What happened and how can I fix it?

I went to your website, and I did not have any problem getting the ones without the 'Buy Tickets' to open a Localendar popup window. But it is not clear to me how you created the 'Buy Tickets' entries. Unlike normal entries, you must hover just over the words 'Buy Tickets' to get something to open, and then what I get is a non-Localendar page.

Re: Embedded Calendar not showing event popups anymore
Thank you. The problem is not the link going to the non-LoCalendar page - the actual LoCalendar pop-up is not coming up and it is not being blocked by a pop-up blocker.

As I said, except for the ones that say 'Buy Tickets', which take you to a 3rd party website, all the others opened in Localendar's popup window for me just fine.

Have you tried this on more than one browser, in case the one you are using might be somehow having a conflict?

Re: Embedded Calendar not showing event popups anymore
I've tried it on every modern browser on a Mac and PC. The issue is this, more specifically:
Any event that has the "Buy Tickets" link will not open a popup with the event details. The events without work as expected.

As a workaround, I've added a new "event" that is just for the ticket link, but that's never been an issue before. It's no different from the other links on the events, so why it's blocking the event popup on the embedded calendar all of a sudden is the issue.

OK, we are says the same thing. It is the 'Buy Tickets' events that are having the problems.

Here is what I do, depending on whether I want to open in Localendar's popup window, or go directly to the link. Compare it to the code you are using.

Go here, which is a free version of Localendar I use for testing only:
http://www.localendar.com/public/HMWlotest1?rss_link=false

Then go to December, 2014. The entry on December 1 takes you directly to an external file. Here is the code I use in the Title line of the Edit Event page:
<a href='http://www.localendar.com/upload/OPwebmaster/newcalendarinstructions_1csree.png'target='_blank'><span style='color:#ff00ff;font-weight:bold;font-size:14px;'>Calendar Instructions -Direct</span></a>

To go direct, the code must be added in the Title line. The target='_blank' is required if you want the external file/URL to open in a new window.

If you want the link to be inside the popup window, the link information must be entered in the Description section. Choose the 'Insert Link' icon, and insert there the URL and the text that you want displayed. That is how the entry on Dec. 8 was created. You will see that the link is now in the popup, and when clicked, opens in a new window.

Hope this helps.

Re: Embedded Calendar not showing event popups anymore
Hi Harry,
This actually doesn't solve the issue. If you go back through the Midway Cafe calendar, you'll see the booking agent has been able to add ticket links without incident to the Event title up until recently.

I know how to have a hyperlink open in a new page/tab. That's not the problem.

The problem is that the calendar will not display the details of the event when the date is clicked on when there is a link in the event title. This was not the case previously. Something changed on localendar's end in that regard.

On localendar itself, this does not happen, so it wasn't caught by the calendar editor. In fact, it only happens on the embedded versions of the calendar.

Re: Embedded Calendar not showing event popups anymore
In reply to all of this, the issue seems to be with the month-view calendar style #1. The second month view does not have this problem and I've swapped the calendar on the site to this view.

Re: Embedded Calendar not showing event popups anymore
Can you supply me with a specific entry on a month/date time that displays the problem, and one from an earlier month which you say does not? I don't see any difference on events in May from those in February.

Also could you supply the code that you are using on the Event page for one of the above examples?

Re: Embedded Calendar not showing event popups anymore
I can chime in here...

We have always let people (manually) add links to an event's title.
However, in cases where the entire title was a link, visitors would both be redirected to the link target, *and* get an empty event pop-up, which is not desired behavior.

So we recently changed that so that any event with a link in the title would not generate the pop-up. We assumed this would address the issue above, and that no members were using links in only part of their titles (but we were wrong as your "buy tickets" example shows)

We're not 100% comfortable with the usability of how your "Buy Tickets" events work since it's not clear you can click in 2 places in the title and get different results (either a pop-up or the Buy Tickets link). But at the end of the day, it's your calendar so I think we are going to change this so that only events that have only an HTML link in the title (and nothing else) will have the pop-up disabled.

--Update: Fix deployed per my comments above.
This means you will get both the Event Pop-up and redirected to the Buy Tickets link when a user clicks Buy Tickets, but just the Pop-up if they click elsewhere in the title.

If an event title starts with <a> and ends with </a>, you will not get the description pop-up when the title is clicked (you will just be redirected to the link)
