Problems with Sharing Feature
I own OJPpatrol with Premium Services. I am just getting back to trying to set this up for a select group after a year or so away. I have the Sharing Feature set up for about a dozen people with "View Only" access. View only allows these people to Add an Event, in addition to viewing. As well as being the owner, I am also one of the people listed with "View Only" access.

But there is a spacing problem with events being added, that was not there a year ago. If you open http://www.ottawapark.org/reference/images/Localendar_OJPPatrol_AddFromOwnerPage.png , you will see at the top what a test event I added looks like when I add it using 'Add Event' from the Standard tab when I log in as the owner. Below is what the result looks like when I login in with my 'View Only' access (http://localendar.com/public/OJPpatrol?rss_link=false ), and click on the event to get the pop up. Everything looks at it should.

Now open http://www.ottawapark.org/reference/images/Localendar_OJPPatrol_AddFromUserPage.png . The top screen is what I see when I access the calendar via http://localendar.com/public/OJPpatrol?rss_link=false as a user, and add an event. The bottom screen is what I see after I log out (Localendar & my browser) and log back in via my 'View Only' access (http://localendar.com/public/OJPpatrol?rss_link=false ), and click on the event to get the pop up. You will see that NONE of the paragraph return entries are there! All of the text runs together in one paragraph.

As I said, this problem did not occur a year ago when I was last working with OJPpatrol. What is the problem, and how do I fix it?

My second problem is one I mentioned a year or so ago when I was working on this site initially. My users are not computer experts, so I am trying to make this as easy as possible for them. They have trouble remembering, when they Add Event, to go to the bottom, open 'Schedule a reminder email' set the reminder time, and check an email list. On the Options-> General page, I have selected 'Visitors may add Public events (immediately visible)', and I have checked 'Notify me of new events via email'. Is there some way that I can get ALL of the people that have View Only access sent an email as soon as an event has been added?

I certainly hope that ALL that are on the list can automatically get an email as soon as the message is sent. But if that is not possible, can you at least add a 'Now' to the "Set a reminder time" option on the Add Event page? None of the times listed is of any value to my use, because I want people to know that an event has been added as soon as it has been scheduled. That is important especially if someone needs a partner, or so no one else schedules at the same time.

Thanks,

Harry

Re: Problems with Sharing Feature
Just wanted to give you a heads-up that we are digging into this. There was a bit of a backlog on the fourms/support tickets there for a bit.

Regarding the line spacing issue... I believe the root cause may be some work we did to exclude custom HTML on user-added events (this may be going overboard and removing line breaks).
The reason we removed the ability for "external" users to add custom HTML was we saw malicious visitors attempting to redirect people to bogus sites (malware, fake ads, scams, etc). We're looking at this now.

On the "Everyone gets a notification" issue.. right now the notifications are sent to the email address under Options->Security. It should be technically possible to create an email group (say, using Yahoo or Google) and using that group's email address on this screen. However... that means that if someone requested a password reset for your account, everyone in the group would get it!

So we obviously don't recommend that you do that. But I have to lay out all the options ;)

A "Now" option is interesting.. but kind of unworkable and klunky. Although I get that you are asking for some kind of Notification function for when events are added. There are definitely free web page monitoring services out there that might work..

I think what you are asking for is a new option under the Options page for something like "Notify all calendar admins when an event has been added" (instead of just the calendar owner). Give us a bit to see what would be involved there.. but that sounds like the most straightforward approach.

Re: Problems with Sharing Feature
On the first item, we've relaxed the clean-up rules for user-contributed events a bit, and the line spacing should now function properly.

Thanks for the quick fix on this one.

I understand your concern. For my use, that would not be the end of the world.

I had never heard of monitoring services. Any names that I can look into?

That would work, except I need this option to be for those who have View Permission, not just those who have Admin Permission. I looked at giving everyone Admin Permission when I was trying to convince you to add an Edit option, but without knowing localendar, my folks who get into all kinds of trouble.

I just tested it on the events that I created July 25 before I sent my 1st post. Unfortunately they still show the problem.

However, it DOES work on a new event I just added on Aug. 21.

Since I am still in the testing mode, the fact that the fix is not retroactive is not a problem for me.

Thanks for fixing this.

Re: Problems with Sharing Feature
Yes, it won't be retro-active. Since the html formatting was stripped when those old events were initially saved, their formatting will not change with the update.

However, as you have seen, new events added will not be cleansed of embedded HTML quite as thoroughly.

Exactly what info is sent from localedar when a password reset (I assume that is when someone can't remember the password) is requested?
I ask because it is a small group of selected folks that can access OJPpatrol. I set up a googlegroups with their names a year or so ago. We don't need CIA type security. And my password for OJPpatrol is stuck away in a safe place.

This is certainly the safest option, as you said. But as I noted, I need this option to be for those who have View Permission.

Re: Problems with Sharing Feature
When a password is reset, we send a link to reset it to something new. The link is only good for 1 day and the old password is still in effect unless someone changes it.

Understand the "view permission" restriction.
But would you not also want to send it to admins with "full access" as well? We were thinking the alerts would go to people with either view or admin permissions.

Thanks for the clarification. I think I could live with that risk, if I needed to.

Sure. As long as it is sent to both view and admin permissions, that seems the best choice. Then I don't need to have anyone's name on both lists.
