importing and overwriting any duplicates
Question - I know I can delete a date range and then re-import, but some calendar items won't be included in the new import... so, I'm asking if there is any way to just have the import NOT create duplicate entries (sort of like Outlook used to work when importing from a csv).

We use an import taken from data exported from our Athletics Dept calendar, but that import doesn't include non-athletics items, which I entered manually at the beginning of the year.

So -- what I'd like to be able to do is just do the monthly updates/imports from the AD's calendar to pick up new items but NOT create any duplicates of those items that were previously imported.

Any suggestions for a solution would be most appreciated. THANK YOU!

Re: importing and overwriting any duplicates
Are you uploading an iCal file? If so, from the file upload page:

  • If you upload another version of the file with the same name, it will update all the events in the existing version
  • You can remove an uploaded calendar using the iCalendar merge page

Are you saying that re-uploading a file with the same name is creating duplicates?

If so, I would try this:
Instead of clearing an entire date range (which clears both the imported events and the ones you have entered) I would try going to the iCalendar Merge Page and deleting the uploaded calendar there. That should remove only the uploaded events, and you can then upload a new copy.

Re: importing and overwriting any duplicates
thank you! I'm importing a csv file, not an iCalendar. Is there any way to avoid creating duplicates when importing a csv file?

Re: importing and overwriting any duplicates
Unfortunately no, because CSV's don't have a unique ID like ics imports.

However, I think what would be a useful enhancement to our "Delete a date range" screen would be to allow you to delete all events in a particular category.

In the CSV import, you can already specify a category. So if you used this proposed feature, you could create a custom category for your imported events, and then only wipe events for that category.

Let me pass this idea along to the dev team.
