I received an email from PayPal telling me that my scheduled subscription payment to localendar.com had failed.
When I asked them why, this is the response I received:
"The merchant is using an older model of our Subscription button (which have subscription IDs that start with an S instead of an I) that do not allow a buyer to change the back up funding source. In this case you will need to close your current subscription and start a new agreement with the merchant selecting the funding source you would like to use. Keep in mind until the merchant updates the code for their subscription button, you will not be able to change the subscription funding source."

Incredible! We have been complaining about the backup funding source issue but have not received any information along the lines you passed along. All we have heard is that there is no way to change backup funding sources for subscriptions - not that we need to update any code with Paypal. I repeat: Incredible.

Well, I will definitely pass this along to the dev team. I imagine this will not retroactively effect all our existing subscribers, but it will be a huge help to any future ones.

"An older version of our button". What does that even mean? Why would Paypal possibly tie your backup funding source to the type of button we use. That just seems pretty strange on their part.

(By the way, their recommendation on re-subscribing is correct)

We created a test that uses Paypal's latest code, and the subscription id still begins with an "S". So we are trying to track down what exactly Paypal meant when they gave you that information.

My subscription has now been cancelled since my last post. I cannot seem to get any help to keep my subscription.

If Paypal cancelled it (say, because they didnt use the correct funding source) then you can just re-subscribe at localendar (from the "Subscribe Now" link on the left menu http://localendar.com/cal?JSP=/subscribe/premium_index )
