Is there a way to set the font to a certain size permanently so you don't have to constantly change it with every entry?

Absolutely. You can put a little custom CSS in your calendar's title or footer to accomplish this. Have a look at
http://localendar.com/docs/display/lc/Custom+Calendar+CSS
