A newbe here - when I try to add a new event the only thing that shows on the calendar is the Title, anything put in the Description block doesnt show.

For the default month-block style calendar, the description text is shown in a pop-up when your user clicks the event title.

There are many other different display options for your calendar (look under Options->General) and some of them do include the calendar title and description (the month-list and month-pinboard views come to mind)
