Edit this Post   Getting better colours on the D5 style calendar Reply to this Post

We use the different styles of the same calendar on our website for different purposes. For a list of upcoming events, we use the D5 style eg
http://www.clog.org.uk/p/hotline-events.html

Unfortunately, the contrast is fairly poor and it is difficult to see the actual dates for the events. Is it possible/easy to change the colours on the D5 style calendar? There are examples in the help for changing the some of the other styles of calendars but nothing on this style which is annoying as the default definitely needs some improvement!

First - Hey, a timeline user! I love that view but not a lot of people use it.
Second - a url included in the post so I can check it out? You are like a pro at this..

OK - on to the question...
Click on Options->Colors and select the tab for "List Views" (the Timeline view is considered a List view). This should let you select a different background color.

If you click "Calendar Title/Month", you can set the title foreground color. I believe this is also the color used for the Date labels that are opposite the text balloons on this view.

The event's background (or category if used) color sets the background color behind the icon for an event.

It doesn't look like we let you set the timeline balloon bg color at this time, but if that's a feature you want, please let me know and I'll pass it along to the dev team.

Thanks.

A couple of more requests:

1/ If you look at the mobile version of this style of calendar eg http://www.clog.org.uk/p/hotline-events.html?m=1 on a mobile phone, all the dates of the events are missing. Can this be fixed? (If you view the mobile version on a desktop you can still see the dates though.)

2/ I think it would be a more efficient use of space for the desktop view of D5 calendar to have all of the events one above the other (like the mobile view) rather than alternating left and right. Could this be changed? But maybe some people prefer the alternating left and right?

1/ is clearly an error/bug in the software that needs fixing whereas 2/ is more a matter of taste though.

Hopefully you saw my response to your support ticket. #1 was not a bug - you just had white text on a white background smile

The D5 view is responsive, so if there isn't enough room all the events will be shown one on top of the other.

If, on a desktop, you make the window narrower, you will see this behavior. But if the window is wide enough, the events will alternate between left and right. Just a design element smile

We are talking about 2 different things! After reading you first response I was about to fix the contrast/colour problem so the dates stand out better - now they are black text on a light background.

The disappearing dates on mobile phones is a completely separate problem!

If you look at the mobile version of this calendar on a desktop, the dates are there:
http://www.clog.org.uk/p/hotline-events.html?m=1

If you look at the same thing on a mobile phone (mine was an android), there are no dates! Nothing to do with colours or contrast - they are just missing. So I think it is a bug.

Because that's a responsive view, the format is adjusted as screen real estate becomes limited. For mobile views, you will see the date/time of the event at the bottom of the event description (not next to it since there's not enough room)

Gosh! You are right - it is at the bottom. I would never expect to see it there.

This is almost invisible because no one will ever spot it there unless some one points it out to them. If it was at the top, then people can see it.

Could you consider a change request to move it from the bottom to the top. That would make it far more useful.

The D5 style has a lot of potential but I suspect that few people actually use it because of a number of niggling features that wouldn't be difficult to change.

Request granted!
We have modified the CSS for that view so that (at smaller screen resolutions) the date+time will follow the event title (rather than the event description)

Thanks,

But there is still a problem - yes I know some people are never satisfied - if you have a longer heading so that on a mobile device it ends up taking two lines, this overlays the date.

See for example (view it on a mobile phone)
https://www.clog.org.uk/p/hotline-events.html?m=1

But if you move the date down one line more this should avoid the problem (unless you have a really long heading which we rarely do).

So please would it be possible to move the event data down to the next line.
