The sign-in area for visitors to post messages to my discussion forum appears dodgey. I would have thought visitors could click anywhere in the ID box or password box to sign in (I realise they must first be a member of localendar). However it appears that they must click right on the left hand edge of the boxes to enter their ID and password. Is this right?

They're just regular input boxes, like everywhere else on the site (and everyone else's sites, for that matter). No special clicking should be required (just verified here w/ a quick test)

Keep in mind the announcement about the current forums being replaced with this new style soon, btw. The login box will most likely change as a result.

Marc --

Am a new user trying to figure out all of the localendar features. One thing I don't get at all is how new members can register so as to participate in a message board. I assume all new members have their own user names and passwords? What if they have no interest in creating a calendar, but just participating in the discussion forum?

Thanks.

Dan

We don't keep 2 sets of id's and passwords, so they should create an account from the homepage. Are you using the new discussion boards (that look like this), or the old ones?

I represent a county organization that is test running your calendar and discussion board. So far, we love it all EXCEPT signing in to the discussion board is REALLY confusing. For someone who wants to just post a message, they have to sign in and then they get your calendar software with no explanation of what to do next!! People get lost and can't get back to the discussion board. They also feel they have been conned into signing up for their own calendar.

Please reply as this is a major issue in purchasing your special features.

Thanks

I don't know why people would feel "conned" for signing up for something that's free... The simple fact is, we need an id/password to allow people to post messages. Otherwise, everyone on the discussion board is known as "guest" or "unknown" or some such, and you'd never make heads nor tails of who was typing/replying to what message.

People should be able to join/sign in right from the discussion board. You shouldn't have to see the calendar at all. Are you experiencing different behaviour?

localendar is a GREAT tool especially to those of us with limited budgets. i think the problem is when you have many people who would only be viewing the calendar or posting a local discussion thread without a calendar of their own we users don't necessarily want our users to bog down your system with one-time customers.

I am having a similar problem.

On my web site home page, I have a button that people can click to access the discussion forums. It takes them right to the “All Forums” page of all the forums I've created. Great.

There is no instruction on that page that they will need to register or log in, in order to post a thread.

(BTW, since logging in is such a critical element for using the forums, you might move it to a more central location/enlarge it/turn it into a button/underline it so it looks more “clickable” or something.)

If a guest clicks on a thread, they get sent to a page that has “Member Sign In.” They know they’re not members. There is no “sign me up” button on that page or instructions on how to register as a new user.

If a guest – either on the all forums page or on this secondary page – clicks on “log in”, they get sent to another page that has both “member sign-in” and “sign me up” options. Great.

If they click the button for “sign me up”, they get sent to the next page where they can enter their email address, zip code, member id and password. Great.

Once they do that, however, they get sent to a blank calendar page.

There are no instructions as to what the heck this blank calendar page means.

There is no link back to my discussion forum -- and all they wanted was to post a thread!

To a guest, it looks like they made a mistake: rather than accessing my discussion forum, they inadvertently registered for a calendar software program and they don’t know what that means.

They are likely to cast about on that page, but never get linked back to my discussion forum unless/until they log out, close out, and start the log in process again.

But, they will not be sure that they won't get sent to a blank calendar page again!

Is there a fix for this?

Thank you.

I understand this is an issue, and we are working to make this simpler.

We are actually right in the middle of rolling out a new release, after which we will begin to address your concerns.

"We are actually right in the middle of rolling out a new release, after which we will begin to address your concerns."

Clarifying questions:

Does your new release address my concern about confusing log-in for new members to discussion forum?

Or, does the new release come out and then you'll address this concern?

Thank you.
