I work for a non-profit theatre. We already have a great production and rehearsal calendar for the actors, but want to create department calendars for Marketing, Education, Group Sales, Touring, and Development. I understand we can do that, and then merge them all into one big happy calendar.

However, what I'm envisioning in my mind as the ideal situation would be that we could not only create a totally merged calendar, but that we could also act as if the calendars were virtual transparencies that could fit over each other (see how old I am? I remember transparencies.). For instance, I might want to just look at Education's calendar merged with Development's calendar, to see if we want to have a cocktail party for donors around a scholarly lecture. Or I might want to see Marketing's calendar over Development's to find out if our annual mailing interferes with their brochure printing and mailing schedule, or I might want three or four calendars but want to leave out others. Is that possible? Once I've merged and looked at what I needed, if I no longer need that particular permutation of merges, can I delete that calendar, leaving intact all the individual calendars and the one totally merged one? Thanks.

The way merging currently works is that there is a single "merge master" calendar, and you designate "sub-calendars" whose public events will be displayed on it (and you can color-code them)

Each sub-calendar has its own login and can be independently managed. Sub calendars can also serve as "merge masters" for other calendars (the events arent "double displayed" when rolled up to the master)

What we currently do not do is let you dynamically hide/show events from the various merged calendars on a particular "master" view, but this is actually something on our "to-do" list.
