Big feelings can lead to big behaviors! In this interactive training, child care providers will look beyond challenging behavior to better understand what children may be feeling, communicating, and needing. Participants will explore how emotions such as anger, fear, frustration, disappointment, and overwhelm may show up through children’s behavior.

Through discussion, activities, and child care scenarios, providers will practice strategies for co-regulation, responding with fewer words, recognizing body cues, and teaching children safe ways to express their needs.

Participants will leave with practical tools for using Regulate → Connect → Teach to support children’s emotional growth in both group and family child care.

This HeartSaver course trains participants to recognize and respond to illnesses and injuries involving infants, children, and adults during the critical first moments before professional help arrives. Participants will learn how to provide first aid, perform CPR, and safely use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a timely and effective manner.

Morning Sessions (3.25 hrs CE):
1. 8:30-10:00 am: Behavior IS Communication, presented by Mary Olson.
Look beyond the behavior, uncover what the child is really
communicating, and discover practical ways to respond with
understanding instead of simply reacting.

2. 10:15-11:45 am: The Power of Connection: Building your FCC Village:
You may work alone, but you don’t have to do it alone—discover your
“FCC Five,” strengthen your professional connections, and build a
village of people who support, encourage, and understand you.

Lunch (.5 hour CE) Time to build your village and enjoy a boxed lunch!

Afternoon Sessions (3.25 hrs CE - must attend Morning Sessions):
3. 12:15-1:45 pm: The Family Child Care Hotseat. Step into the FCC
Hotseat, tackle real-life challenges, and discover new perspectives and
practical solutions as you work together to answer the question: “What
would YOU do?”

4. 2:00-3:30 pm: Beyond the Bubble Bath-Self-care for FCC
Professionals. Forget the bubble bath—discover real, realistic self-care
strategies that protect your energy, strengthen your boundaries, and
help you build a family child care business that supports your life
instead of consuming it.

To increase the quality of practices of family child care providers, this facilitated huddle will share information, news, knowledge, ideas, and offer support through shared experiences.

Each session includes discussions on a topic of interest that will directly benefit children and families by providing tools and strategies to support providers as they interact and provide quality care and developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
