BIKES ON RICE

The free Bikes on Rice rides are being held on the second Saturday of every month through November, 2022. Meet at Kalena Park.

  • Second Saturday of each month
  • please be ready to ride at 4:30 PM
  • we typically depart by 4:45 PM
  • we generally ride about six miles
  • we'll return to Kalena Park ~ 6:15 PM (well before dark)
These are easy-paced, guided rides on Lihue's quiet streets, and nobody gets left behind.

At the start of the ride we'll decide if we want to go out as one big happy group or split up by preference—more athletic riders can go charge up hills and travel farther at a brisk pace, while a different group of more easy-going riders aren't rushed or over-exerted.

Need gear? Kauai Path can typically provide basic loaner bikes and helmets -- at no charge -- if you need equipment. We even have a loaner Burley Bee two-seat child carrier you could request for a free trial run. Reply, register, call, or text Tommy at (808) 639-1018 at least 48 hours in advance to request loaner gear.

Why the second Saturday of each month?

The Rice Street Business Association now coordinates the Downtown Lihue Night Market on the second Saturday of each month. The Bikes on Rice rides will help increase awareness of these fun events, and the Night Markets will help attract riders.

Need more information?

The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) will be on-site at the Kaua‘i Resource Center (KRC) located at 3460 Ahukini Road in Lฤซhu‘e from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Residents, businesses, and other organizations can bring in unwanted or unneeded items for reuse including clothing, small furniture, children’s toys, books, and shoes. Clothing and textiles do not need to be in good condition. Torn or stained clothing is okay. Please do not bring eWaste, chemicals, appliances, or broken items. We encourage the public to check with their local thrift stores to see if they are capable of taking donations before bringing items to the KRC.

Due to health and safety concerns with heavy equipment in the area and to reduce the chance of injury to customers unloading heavy items, the Salvation Army requests that the public remain in their vehicle while on-site.

The ARC also offers pick-up services to thrift stores and businesses. Please call 808-241-4336 to schedule new service. For individuals that would like home pick-up service, please contact Habitat for Humanity Restore at 808-335-6105 or RP’s Random Closet at 808-346-0020 (Note: RP’s Random Closet is a for-profit agency).
