Did you know? The Veterans Fly Fishing Group, sponsored by American Veterans Fly Fishers, Inc. (AVFF), meets every Thursday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the High Desert Vet Center in Victorville. This program is designed to provide physical and emotional rehabilitation for U.S. veterans through fly fishing and related activities. The group offers a variety of opportunities, including fly tying classes, fly rod building classes, fly fishing seminars, and an annual fly-fishing retreat to Convict Lake Resort.Rooted in a strong commitment to God, country, and family, AVFF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and a Fly Fishers International Charter Club member. Through both social gatherings at the Vet Center and on-the-water experiences, participants can connect with fellow veterans and engage in meaningful outdoor activities. The Vet Center is located at 15095 Amargosa Road, Suite 107 in Victorville. Did you know? The Veterans Fly Fishing Group, sponsored by American Veterans Fly Fishers, Inc. (AVFF), meets every Thursday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the High Desert Vet Center in Victorville. This program is designed to provide physical and emotional rehabilitation for U.S. veterans through fly fishing and related activities. The group offers a variety of opportunities, including fly tying classes, fly rod building classes, fly fishing seminars, and an annual fly-fishing retreat to Convict Lake Resort.Rooted in a strong commitment to God, country, and family, AVFF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and a Fly Fishers International Charter Club member. Through both social gatherings at the Vet Center and on-the-water experiences, participants can connect with fellow veterans and engage in meaningful outdoor activities. The Vet Center is located at 15095 Amargosa Road, Suite 107 in Victorville. Did you know? The Veterans Fly Fishing Group, sponsored by American Veterans Fly Fishers, Inc. (AVFF), meets every Thursday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the High Desert Vet Center in Victorville. This program is designed to provide physical and emotional rehabilitation for U.S. veterans through fly fishing and related activities. The group offers a variety of opportunities, including fly tying classes, fly rod building classes, fly fishing seminars, and an annual fly-fishing retreat to Convict Lake Resort.Rooted in a strong commitment to God, country, and family, AVFF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and a Fly Fishers International Charter Club member. Through both social gatherings at the Vet Center and on-the-water experiences, participants can connect with fellow veterans and engage in meaningful outdoor activities. The Vet Center is located at 15095 Amargosa Road, Suite 107 in Victorville. The Victor Valley Museum-A San Bernardino County Museum will present 'The Desert in Transition,' a new exhibition of watercolor landscapes by Bernard Hoyes, opening on Monday, April 27. Featuring expressive, large-scale works, the exhibition captures the beauty, spirituality, and evolving nature of the desert landscape, inviting visitors to reflect on their connection to the land and the changes taking place around them. The exhibition will be on view through July 26.

The ceremony will honor the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the nation. Veterans of Foreign Wars Bill Collins Post 2143 will host a Memorial Day service at 11 a.m. Monday, May 25, at Mt. View Memorial Park in Barstow. The event will include participation from the City of Barstow, Fort Irwin National Training Center, Marine Corps Logistics Base, and other community partners as they remember and honor fallen military service members. For information, call (760) 256-2797.New Life Facility will host its 4th Annual Memorial Day BBQ from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, May 25, at 18888 Outer Highway 18, Suite 208, in Apple Valley. The free community gathering will provide an opportunity to honor fallen heroes, share memories, and enjoy fellowship. Members of Men's Stagg will provide food preparation and grilling for the event.

The Victor Valley Moose Lodge in Hesperia will host a Memorial Day gathering on Monday, May 25, honoring the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to the country, as well as those who suffered injuries while serving in the military. The event will take place from noon to 5 p.m. at the lodge, located at 10230 E Ave. in Hesperia. Guests can enjoy $3 burgers and $1.50 hot dogs during the gathering. Members and qualified guests are welcome to attend.

The Phelan Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9415 will host its annual Memorial Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. Monday, May 25, at 4892 Nielson Road in Phelan. The event will begin with the raising of the American flag by a local Boy Scout troop, followed by patriotic performances from the Serrano High School Choir. A formal flag retirement ceremony presented by the Boy Scouts will also take place. Community members may drop off worn or damaged U.S. flags in the designated flag depository located outside the VFW hall. The ceremony will conclude with a community potluck lunch, and attendees are encouraged to bring a dish to share.Members of the VFW and its Auxiliary will also distribute red remembrance poppies in front of the Stater Bros. market in Phelan from May 22 through May 25. The red poppy symbolizes the sacrifices made by military service members and is closely associated with Memorial Day traditions.

The 19th Annual Memorial Weekend Charity Car and Bike Show will take place on Saturday, May 23, at High Desert Ford in Victorville. The family-friendly event is free and open to the public and will feature live music by The Modd Rodds along with entertainment from MC DJ KevDog. Attendees can enjoy a wide variety of classic cars and bikes, while cruisers will receive dash plaques while supplies last. Numerous trophies will also be awarded during the event. Organizers hope to make this the biggest and best show yet, with proceeds benefiting local charities.

Wrightwood’s 18th annual Memorial Day Ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, May 25, at Wrightwood Veterans Memorial Park on Evergreen Road. The ceremony will feature the presentation of colors by the Fort Irwin Color Guard, patriotic music, guest speakers, and the presentation of the first Wrightwood Veterans Memorial Scholarship. The Wrightwood Singers will perform “Songs of Service” to recognize veterans from each military branch, while local Girl Scout troops will participate in the annual laying of the wreath ceremony.

The San Bernardino County Library’s free Adult Literacy Program offers confidential, one-on-one tutoring for adults looking to strengthen their reading and writing skills. Weekly tutoring sessions are held at local library branches, providing personalized instruction in a supportive, welcoming environment.

Services are currently available at the Adelanto Branch (11497 Bartlett Ave., Adelanto), Apple Valley Branch (14901 Dale Evans Parkway, Apple Valley), Barstow Branch (304 E. Buena Vista St., Barstow), and Hesperia Branch (9650 7th Ave., Hesperia).

The program pairs adult learners with trained volunteer tutors and is open to adults who are not enrolled in school and read or write below a seventh-grade level. In addition to in-person tutoring at these library locations, participants and volunteers have access to online literacy resources.

San Bernardino County Department of Aging and Adult Services can also assist seniors through the 24/7 Call Center at 877-565-2020.

Did you know? The Veterans Fly Fishing Group, sponsored by American Veterans Fly Fishers, Inc. (AVFF), meets every Thursday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the High Desert Vet Center in Victorville. This program is designed to provide physical and emotional rehabilitation for U.S. veterans through fly fishing and related activities. The group offers a variety of opportunities, including fly tying classes, fly rod building classes, fly fishing seminars, and an annual fly-fishing retreat to Convict Lake Resort.Rooted in a strong commitment to God, country, and family, AVFF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and a Fly Fishers International Charter Club member. Through both social gatherings at the Vet Center and on-the-water experiences, participants can connect with fellow veterans and engage in meaningful outdoor activities. The Vet Center is located at 15095 Amargosa Road, Suite 107 in Victorville. The Victor Valley Museum-A San Bernardino County Museum will present 'The Desert in Transition,' a new exhibition of watercolor landscapes by Bernard Hoyes, opening on Monday, April 27. Featuring expressive, large-scale works, the exhibition captures the beauty, spirituality, and evolving nature of the desert landscape, inviting visitors to reflect on their connection to the land and the changes taking place around them. The exhibition will be on view through July 26.
