     Guest Speaker
Ronnie Johns-Chairman of the Louisiana Gaming Control Board
Ronnie Johns was appointed Chairman of the Louisiana Gaming Control Board in July of 2021 by Governor John Bel Edwards.
In his position as Chairman, he serves as the Chief Regulator of all Gaming activities which includes 15 Riverboard Casino licenses, the land-based casino license in New Orleans, the racino licenses at 4 para-mutual racetracks, all video poker licenses statewide, and now the 20 Sports Wagering licenses plus their wagering platforms.
Chairman Johns worked as a Registered Pharmacist from 1972-1982. In 1982 he acquired a State Farm Insurance Agency and worked in that profession until his retirement in 2020.
Chairman Johns served in the La. House of Representatives from 1996-2008. Due to term limits he could not run for re-election at that time. From 2008-2011, he served as Chairman of the La. Lottery Corporation.  In 2012, he was elected to the La. Senate, where he served until July 2021 when he was appointed to his current position.
While serving in the La. Legislature for 22 years, he worked extensively on pro business issues, adoption and foster care legislation, prescription drug abuse legislation, human trafficking issues, and gaming legislation.  He authored legislation to create a working taskforce to modernize the gaming laws of Louisiana. That task force spent 18 months reviewing every aspect of his state's gaming laws and this work led to major changes in how Louisiana regulates the gaming industry.  He authored and passed legislation to allow the 15 legacy Riverboat Casino's to become land based operations.  He passed legislation to give the casino industry a significant tax break on their promotional play programs.  He played a key role in the passage of the Sports Wagering program and then as Chairman had the responsibility of implementing it.
Chairman Johns is married to Michelle and they have one daughter and four grandchildren.  They reside in the Lake Charles, La. area.
