📍 Opening on Sunday June 12 at 3PM with a collective walk in the presence of the artist and the participants at Moussem Studios - 6 Rue des Mégissiers - 1070 ANDERLECHT reservations: patrick@moussem.be

EN How does public and urban space reflect our gendered assignments and positions? Under what conditions and for what reasons is a space perceived as safe or hostile for cis, trans, queer or non-binary women? Q(ee)R Codes - New Boundaries Anderlecht 1070 is part of a ongoing itinerant art project initiated by Anna Raimondo. The project questions the experiences of cis, trans and queer women in their cities.

Through listening and oral research on the one hand and the creation of new spaces for imagination, confrontation and dialogue on the other, Q(ee)R Codes Anderlecht 1070 aims to articulate this research to the neighbourhood.

The first part of this project is a series of soundwalks produced with women and non binary people from different geographical and cultural backgrounds, from various generations and social environments, and of different sexual orientations.
Inviting the participants to describe their most significant spaces in the neighbourhood through the sensations produced by these places, as well as through their stories, memories and projections, the project proposes a multiple cartography of Anderlecht mediated by voices, bodies and subjectivities.

While Strolling through Anderlecht the audience is invited to listen to the experiences of the participantes in the public space through different QR codes.

👀 More information about the route of the walk will follow shortly.

Q(ee)R Codes – New Boundaries Anderlecht 1070 maakt deel uit van een langdurig nomadisch artistiek project geïnitieerd door Anna Raimondo.

Walk: The Brussels of witches [fully booked]

    Monday Jul 4
    10:00 - 13:00

In the 14th century, as we move out of the ‘dark’ Middle Ages and into the Modern Age and the Renaissance, women are plunged into darkness – or rather into the flames of the stake. How were women’s skills and knowledge transformed into acts of witchcraft? How did the living conditions of free women change? What female figures reveal other possible worlds? What does our urban public space reveal about that time… and about witches today? Find out in this feminist guided walk by art historian Chiara Tomalino from L’architecture qui dégenre.

    Lab: 4x4x4

    Monday Jul 4
    14:00 - 17:00

How should we deal with infrastructure in the city? During this lab, we investigate what the Brussels infrastructures of tomorrow will look like. We try to draw the contours of possible adaptive infrastructures for the future. Which places and flows in Brussels are collectively good? Can we map them out? And how do they challenge us to keep making the city together? A carpet will bloom from the exchanges looking back and forth on the future of adaptive infrastructures of our cityscape. We will add, paint and craft this carpet that will be visible as a trace of our Lab afternoon at the Tour à Plomb center for the rest of the week.

We will ask participants the questions that drive us: How can this type of project shape the Brussels of tomorrow? What role should they play in the agro-ecological, social and societal transition of Brussels? With which other disciplines should/could bridges be built? The visit will be facilitated by Francisco Davila and Léna De Brabandere, researchers at the ULB Agroecology Lab, and Guillaume Culot and Gaël Loicq, market gardeners at Refresh asbl.

Expo : 'VIVZ S´IL VOUS PLAÎT! LEVN ALSTUBLIEFT!'

    Wednesday Jul 6
    14:00 - 18:00

The exhibition VIVZ S´IL VOUS PLAÎT! LEVN ALSTUBLIEFT! shows for the first time the history of URBAN ART in Berlin of the last 20 years. Urban art on facades or trains, paint on monuments or wild art actions have appeared in Berlin as an expression of SOCIAL PROTESTS. In the exhibition artists and activists from Berlin will design the space in La Vallée and their paintings, photographs, videos and stories let you dive in their urban art movement.

In Berlin, urban art has developed increasingly since the fall of the Wall, favoured by the specificity of Berlin with its open spaces and the cheap rents: Berlin offered artists and activists free space to develop artistically and politically, largely without economic constraints.

In recent years, however, it has become apparent that GENTRIFICATION are taking place affecting mostly socially disadvantaged people in multicultural neighbourhoods. These developments intensify social problems in urban society. DISCRIMINATION and socio-spatial EXCLUSION generate social conflicts.

Artists and activists PROTEST WITH ART and other interventions in public against inequalities and gentrification. Their ART in PUBLIC SPACES criticise the conditions in the city and show alternative visions of social coexistence. Recently, many protests concerning the colonial history of Berlin are gaining strength, questioning public monuments of the colonial era and thus DECOLONIZING the city.

The exhibition VIVZ S´IL VOUS PLAÎT! LEVN ALSTUBLIEFT! in LaVallee shows photographs, videos and artworks of URBAN ART and SOCIAL PROTESTS in Berlin for a right to the city and for decolonisation.

Walk & Lab: STEENWEG – a culture of metropolitan ground floors

    Thursday Jul 7
    10:00 - 12:00

From the middle age up to the early 20th century, the ‘steenweg’ – the west-east urban axis connecting Gentse Steenweg and chaussée d’Ixelles – used to be the backbone of the city center. Nowadays, after a century of deep transformation and segmentation, it has become a trajectory intersecting highly diverse neighborhoods and a unique density of public buildings, cultural institutions and heritage sites. It is also planned as one of the future main pedestrian axis of the Regional Mobility Plan. Based on earlier studies carried out by the Brussels Studies Institute, UCLouvain and USL-B with the support of perspective.brussels, this combination of walk and workshop will explore the possibility to reshape the Steenweg as a cultural landscape embodying the metropolitan soul and dreams of Brussels. First we will walk along the Steenweg, in order to observe the multiples uses and practices in publicly accessible spaces such as galleries, train and metro stations, halls, courts, patios, parkings, etc. In the afternoon we will share and discuss observations at Tour à Plomb.

Lab: Brussels Turbulencies, research into what wind around towers says about cities

    Thursday Jul 7
    14:00 - 17:00

The session is designed as a workshop to start thinking about the presence of towers and skyscrapers in Brussels (and elsewhere) and their impact on cities. It starts with a presentation by Raf Custers and Greet Brauwers on their practice of Tower Turbulence, which is then handed over to a number of invited speakers by exu to move towards an exchange with the participants, the result of which should be - ideally - the intention to initiate and plan a collective research over the long term on Tower Turbulence. Raf Custers and Greet Brauwers carry out artistic research projects. An important theme is hyper-extractivism. They therefore work on extractivism in cities (e.g. Brussels, Kinshasa, Rio de Janeiro and Jerusalem) and mining (in the DRCongo, Latin America and the seabed).

Expo : 'VIVZ S´IL VOUS PLAÎT! LEVN ALSTUBLIEFT!'

    Thursday Jul 7

    Spoken Word: Echo For Tomorrow

    Thursday Jul 7
    18:00 - 20:00

Performers Miksi and Fleur turn collective dreams, ideas and feelings into poetry and music. They give the audience a musical and poetic glimpse of what lingers in between our foggy minds. It will be like sailing on a ship towards the horizon while staying ashore, like knowing that you`re dreaming a past moment whilst waking up inside the future. In Echo For Tomorrow they create visions of the city they live in together with the audience.

Strolling around like a cat singer-songwriter Fleur loves to end up in unexpected places in the city, where she shares her music and delves up stories by involving bystanders. She creates performance and poetic conversations.
Miksi is a nomadic performance poet rooted in Brussels like a weed. (Even if she goes, she won’t stay gone long). Part of the SpeakEasy collective she organizes poetic interventions, writes silly monologues and answers your questions in riddles or rhymes.
Together Fleur and Miksi enter the intermediary zone between now and the future and turn your ideas and feelings into musical poetry that evokes our dreams.

OPENING - Éveils by Juliette Mancini

    Thursday Jul 7
    18:00 - 21:00

Join us on the 7th of July for the opening of 'Éveils' by Juliette Mancini! ❤️

For her solo exhibition at that’s what x said, Juliette Mancini will present original artworks from her latest graphic novel, Éveils.

Éveils is a journey through time, a dive into the inner questioning of a young girl, going from childhood to adulthood. Through several stories, Juliette Mancini tells the story of her life to encourage us to question our own narratives, our views of the world, and the way we understand it throughout our existence.

Through her own reality, Juliette Mancini highlights society’s impact on our individual developments. The artist approaches a number of subjects that impact most women throughout their lives. She questions the evolution of one’s relationship to the body, especially during puberty. She looks at the first moments when women are faced with the sexualisation of their own bodies by the outside world, as well as at the search for others’ validation, and finally she looks at heteronormative norms and the male gaze. Juliette Mancini questions this set of imposed rules that are part of a system that pushes people who do not fit the norms to feel like outsiders.

Throughout the graphic novel, readers are invited to dive deep into their own childhood and rediscover their own experiences through the memories of the author. In some ways, Éveils is a tool to rethink childhood, offering a new analysis to better understand the world and ourselves.

Juliette Mancini, creates her original artworks in an unconventional way, giving as much importance to the texts as to the images, resulting in soft and nostalgic visual poetry aesthetics throughout the graphic novel. All together, it creates a visually beautiful story, that is also a complex retrospective on the construction of our individualities.

    Thursday Jul 7
    19:30 - 22:30

    Les portent s'ouvrent à 19 :30, le film commence à 20:00.

    =============================

A few years ago, Bob Weir was telling a writer about his process, and how the notion of constantly becoming—of life being lived in a state of flux—doesn’t just apply to the ever-changing self, but to the things the self creates. Speaking of the song “Saint of Circumstance,” which he’d been playing live for 40 years, Weir said, “I’m just starting to scratch the surface of what I can do with that.” This idea of a song as a living, breathing thing, a liquid portrait that sloshes to the borders of whatever frame is fixed upon it, is at the center of Edwin and Andy White’s work as Tonstartssbandht. Through constant touring, the brothers’ songs both take shape and change shape, becoming something a little different every night as they explore the possibilities inherent within them. With time, attention, and intention, these songs—long, languid, full of open musical questions and temporary answers—become distinct objects, and the process begins again. On Petunia, the brothers’ 18th album and second for Mexican Summer, they bring us to the earliest moments of this process, showing off a barn full of hatchlings already decked with splendid plumage.

Under what conditions and for what reasons is a space perceived as safe or hostile for cis, trans, queer or non-binary women? Q(ee)R Codes - New Boundaries Anderlecht 1070 is part of a ongoing itinerant art project initiated by Anna Raimondo.

Q(ee)R Codes - New Boundaries Anderlecht 1070 marks the beginning of a long-term research project in the municipality of Anderlecht.

Lab: Cartography for a Multispecies City

    Friday Jul 8
    10:00 - 13:00

During this collaborative mapping session, we aim to map a collective sense of loss and wonder in front of the disappearance and appearance of different life forms on contested sites of urban nature in Brussels. This map will be produced in close collaboration with members of neighborhood and nature associations who have been organizing marches to protest the development plans for sites of urban nature (such as the Friche Josaphat, le Marais Wiels, Donderberg, Mijlemeers, ...). The mapping session will be preceded by a walk in the Marais Wiels, where we will test alternative methods for integrating more affective forms of knowledge about animal and plant species into spatial design tools.

    Facilitator: Jolein Bergers (KU Leuven)
    What: Cocreation Lab

Expo : 'VIVZ S´IL VOUS PLAÎT! LEVN ALSTUBLIEFT!'

    Friday Jul 8

This duo are inventing a new, creole musical language. The Rotterdam-based artists repurposes forms from IDM and Global Club to create exhilarating hybrids, applying a fresh perspective that is both deeply personal and political.

‘Animism’ is the idea found in indigenous belief systems that all objects, creatures and places possess a spiritual essence. Pre-colonial thought, traditions and music connected with Marvin’s Moluccan and Linh’s Vietnamese-Chinese heritage are key inspirations and tools through which the duo explore their experience as queer POC living in the Netherlands.

    https://soundcloud.com/marceldune

An experimental electronic music artist from the Athenian underground scene. DJ and producer, she builds her productions by combining modular synthesizers with analog & digital sounds in addition to field recordings, including various techniques and knowledg she learned from jazz studies and opera singing. She mostly draws her inspiration in the underground scene, how people try to express frustration, society’s oppression through music and dance.

Her music is a perfect blend of fast-paced beats and abstract, woozy sound design. Raw and intense, sometimes chaotic, her DJ and producer skills shoot her off to the Greek foreground before relocating to London in 2020 to get closer to the city's diverse and raw street-style culture.

Versatility is a virtue and Kuba’s record collection is just that: versatile. Engaging with an audience is his first focus. His sound will differ from set to set, juggling tempos and moods, Kuba has what it takes to translate his own story to the dancefloor.

The Horst Festival and nacht promotor will get behind the decks with BAKK Den Haag musician and Nachtschade resident Noord Halle, who is arising from the outskirts of Brussels as a young and promising source of hard to beat fast paced electronics.

    • ABOUT & WATCH:
Lander & Adriaan is a Belgian duo with drummer Lander Gyselinck (Stuff.,Beraadgeslagen,LABtrio) and Adriaan Van de Velde (Pomrad, Mauro Powlowski, J. Bernardt). Their common fondness for slick digital synths and 90s underground dancemusic genres brought them together to submerge in symbiotic jams during the very first lockdown in 2020. After a bunch of very successful under-the-radar concerts, they recorded an album in the summer of 2021 that will be released in the spring of 2022. Their gently disturbed mashup of 90s dancemusic genres like Chicago juke, Detroit techno, UK-Funky, Classic rave, corny jazzfusion and mundane jazz impro brings you to a pleasantly disturbed realm of unguilty pleasures, sheer weirdness and pure excitement. ‘Post Nudism Rave’ they call it. Others call it ‘free rave’, ’confusi-trance’ and ’sophisti-rave’.
    -> WATCH: https://youtu.be/4DUj3AHpMXo

Hailing from Brussels, Le Motel’s world is a vortex of sight and sound that takes in the many and varied corners of the planet. As a music producer and film composer his versatility has taken him to festivals and clubs in every direction as naturally as he has ventured out to the less accessible areas of the globe as a field recordist. It’s somewhere in between these spaces that Le Motel operates, gathering unique experiences and sounds to channel through his studio. You'll be experiencing the quantum thrills of interplanetary ambient drones, sweet drumming frenzy, pulpy saccharine melodies, mushy bass lines, all gently weaved into raw sweat-drippy dancemusic. Get (half) nude and dance!

Q(ee)R Codes - New Boundaries Anderlecht 1070 marks the beginning of a long-term research project in the municipality of Anderlecht.
