THURSDAY, OCT. 2 PEACHAM Celebrate all that Peacham has to offer! Start with breakfast at the Peacham Café (9-2). Stroll up Church Street and visit the Blacksmith Shop (11-3), the Historical House featuring Hats and Dresses! (11-4), the Corner Cemetery, the War Memorial, the Snow Roller Museum (12-3), and an iconic view of Peacham Village. Eat lunch at Peacham Elementary School (11-1:30) Quiche and corn chowder, $12) or at Peacham Cafe. Shop local crafts and harvest goodies at the Peacham Corner Guild (10-4), browse the book sale at the library (10-2), explore the sky at Peacham Observatory, or gather outside the historic East Peacham Schoolhouse for cider and donuts. Take a guided hike to Peacham Bog with its beautiful fall colors (1:30-4) or join “Ghost on Wheels” - a bus tour of three historic cemeteries (1-3, $10). SATURDAY, OCT. 4 GROTON Start the day in Groton enjoying a Lumber Jack breakfast at the Methodist Church from (7:30 - 9:30), Adults $14, under 12 $6. Visit Peter Paul Historical House open from (10-2), where at 9:30 they will host a workshop on the art of metal detecting with Phillip Mandolare aka the well-known “Mud Dog Mandy” from Pittsfield, VT. Groton Free Public Library will be open from (9:30 -1) with special activities and programs. The First Baptist Church will be serving nachos, hotdogs, Vermont maple cotton candy and a variety of other flavors by donation from (11-1) on Scott Highway. Submit a pumpkin for competition in the Great Pumpkin Weigh-in from (10:30-1:30) at the Upper Valley Grill. View the Downtown Parade beginning at 1:30 in front of the Community Building. | 10 am - 3 pm Pumpkin Palooza / Trick or Treating / Scavenger Hunt
Get ready for Pumpkin Palooza!! Come and get a free pumpkin and enter the jack-o-lantern contest. Pumpkin pick up will be Oct. 18th, 10am-12pm at Gardner Park. You will have one week to bring your jack-o-lantern creation to life, judging will be in 5 categories: ages 5 and under, ages 6-12, ages 13-17, adults, and businesses, prizes for each category will be given after judging. Drop off for display at the Parklet next to the municipal building on main street at 1pm-2pm on Oct. 25th and then go trick or treating down main street, judging will happen directly after drop off no later than 2:00pm. Trick or treating down main street will be from 1pm-2:45, at 2:45, directly after trick or treating head back to the Parklet for the costume contest where we have a prize for the best costume. After we announce the awards, stick around for a Spooky Scavenger Hunt hosted by the Newport City Downtown Development organization. There will be a youth scavenger hunt and a little more challenging hunt for adults, the scavenger hunt will take place from 3pm-5pm. At 5pm all scavenger hunters are asked to gather at the Warehouse Restaurant on main street to see who the winner is.
Don't forget to bring your trick or treating bags and wear your costumes to do trick or treating up main street at participating downtown businesses from 1-3pm! ...More |
