Performance is Miserable Tonight
I have spent well over an hour tonight and have not been able to make one successfully update.

Even moving between months can take an excessive time, or even stall out.

On my Vista system, I have tried both IE and Firefox browsers and got similar results, which is basicly no results.

I even when back to my old Win 98SE System with the same None results.

What is the problem?
And it is not the first time I have reported poor to no response.

Re: Performance is Miserable Tonight
If the site is slow, there are 3 very general reasons we could suspect:
1) Your pc (which you eliminated by trying more than 1)
2) The connection from your computer to our servers
3) Our servers

Of course, there are really a ton of possible causes. For example; if you included an externally hosted image on your calendar, that could slow things down. Or if your ISP was having problems. Or, if you have a cable modem and all of your neighbors are playing EverQuest, etc at that time. Not to mention the fact that between your ISP and us, there may be a dozen other uninvolved machines that your requests bounce off.

Our servers have monitoring software hitting them which will notify us about performance issues. I do not see any alerts since last week. The machines are generally backing things up around 12am-3am EST, so things can be a bit slower at those times as well.

We regularly monitor performance and upgrade capacity as needed. Our goal is good performance even for dial-up users. We most recently pushed several new servers about 4 months ago and are not seeing them hit any kind of capacity yet.

The last outage I am aware of was caused by our ISP (cihost) on Friday, Aug 31, for about an hour. I would be curious if the next time you experience a slowdown hitting localendar.com if you find the same performance issues hitting cihost.com

Re: Performance is Miserable Tonight
Must be your servers.
I have a 6Mbps cable internet connection and other services step right along.

Right now navigation between Months is OK; however,
I am presently spinning in another Tab trying to delete a 2nd entry from the other night.

The problem seems to be a failure to return to the Calendar from EDIT Mode.

BTW, Still loading for over 5 minutes. Looks stuck!

Re: Performance is Miserable Tonight
Update:
I Stopped the Delete operation, then Refreshed, which returned me to this month's (September 2007) calendar. I was working in the July 2008 page. Then could not leave Sep 07 Page, just spinning.

Closed and restarted FireFox, then cleared cache and linked to localendar and have currently been "loading" for the last 6 minutes just trying to move to the next Calendar page.

Re: Performance is Miserable Tonight
As I mentioned above; there are a lot of moving parts between your computer and ours. It's not like a telephone connection where only our 2 machines are involved.

Did you try the other site I noted above? I've been using my calendar and it's been super-snappy.

Re: Performance is Miserable Tonight
This morning is another tedious one.
The public version is just spinning on loading again.
I was able to make one update; however, I can not re-access with the Public version to check. And cannot access any month in 2008 from the either the Editing or Public versions.

Yes, I did try "cihost.com" and the sales part was ok; however,
I got an error trying to access the "demo.com" calendar.
Just what is that supposed to prove about localendar?

Ray A.

PS: I expect a telephone connection will be faster, certainly could not be any slower.
Speed is not really the issue. I can NOT complete an operation.

Re: Performance is Miserable Tonight
And you're hitting the public calendar directly? Or is it embedded in your site?

I am unaware of a demo.com calendar... where did you see that link?

I will add a few private test events to your calendar, but it comes up sub-second for me (remotely)

No response problems. Any other viewers of this thread experiencing Ray's issue?

BTW, what browser/version/OS are you using?

<Not sure exactly what you mean, but I think both ways.
I have a link from my website to the Public version,
and I login directly to do edits or create new entries.
Doesn't seem to matter.>

Your recommendation from a previous response, just what was I supposed to be checking for?

> I will add a few private test events to your calendar, but it comes up sub-second for me (remotely)

< I noticed, and you left them there. I got one copy made and right now I am spinning again on an update attempt., so can't get back to delete them.
It's Sunday afternoon an should not be a server problem.
I think code issue in updates in 2008.

< As I said in my original entry, Vista and IE7 and FireFox 2,
with similar results on my old Win98SE with IE6 and Firefox 1.

Re: Performance is Miserable Tonight
What is your new question?

My answers were in my previous append
< ... > below your questions from your previous append.

Ray A.

PS: Got similar results last night using my wife's WinXP with IE7.
I did notice long delays with the Phishing Filter Icon high lited.
I did get a little relief when I turned the PF off.
Has your site been blackballed?
