Event notifications
Have not been able to recieve event notifications from the calendar (cva_webmaster / Central Vermont Academy)

Had entered a test on 01/05/06, 4:05PM, set reminder for 15 minutes and no notification.

Set email address to user group (Google) under security options.

Please advise on what else I can do.

Re: Event notifications
Also tested the "Forgot Password" feature on homepage:

Forget your Password ?
There has been a problem sending e-mail. The password for cva_webmaster has not been sent.

Re: Event notifications
I was able to request the forgot password feature and was waiting for a reply. Nothing came, so I signed on to check the Options, Security to verify the email address which I had changed to cvaevents@googlegroups.com. When I checked it was replaced by the original email address, cva_webmaster@yahoo.com that I used when I signed on for the 30 day free trial. I plan on purchasing this service, so I don't think this should have been an issue as to what is happening.

I would like the event notification feature to function so I can use this for our website. Can you please verify what the email address is used for the notifications. Google Groups allows the moderator to add an address.

Re: Event notifications
I am waiting for a response from Marc Higgins, Support Tech for Localendar.com. I have searched the forum groups and was applying some of the advice he had given to others who have the issue of not recieving event notifications. Sorry this looked rather cryptic.

Marc has mentined using Yahoo Groups and using that address to forward for larger distribution lists. I would reccommend using Google Groups. This will allow the moderator to add email address and make the Localander email address to be added, give this address override priviliges for posting and to have repsonse set to view at the group site. This would stop postings from forwarding to Localander. Also Google Groups has susbcriber link which webmasters can place on the website so users can subscribe, unsubscribe, etc.

Marc I hope this helps and am looking for your reply on why this notification feature is not working for me.

rose   Re: Event notifications
I am now able to recieve notification for events posted on my calendar.

I changed the email address on the Options\Security page and on the Options\General page.

As stated in a previous posting, I am using a Googlegroups.com address. This allowed me to enter Localendar email address
remind_agent@localendar.com to the group with posting prvileges and to view postings at the site only. This will stop any postings to forward back to Localendar.

This will be a better option for Localendar from having to delete all those email postings from Yahoo Groups.

Googlegroups also has a "Promotion Box" that will allow you to place on your website a subscription box for a user to add there email address to the group.

Re: Event notifications
cva_webmaster,

Thanks for your work on this. It seems Google has once again trumped Yahoo. That'll be our recommendation in the future.

Tx!

Re: Event notifications to Yahoo Groups
Marc,

It would appear that Yahoo groups has marked the remind_agent@localendar.com email address as "bounced" since 12/1/2005.

Email Account Status
Account Status: Hard Bouncing as of Dec 21, 2005
Total Bounces: 5
Reactivation Requests Sent: 6
Last Request Sent: Mon Mar 13, 2006 8:54 am

Have you tried to contact Yahoo to have the remind email address added to an exclude list so they don't continue to stop it? Obviously they can't get a reply from it and because of that they are denying all the reminders sent to any Yahoo group list.

Let us know,

Thanks,

Rick

Re: Event notifications to Yahoo Groups
An update.

I was able to get in contact with the Yahoo Groups technical support.

They have reset the remind_agent@localendar.com email account in their system so that it is no longer marked as "bouncing".

Email reminder messages are now being forwarded correctly.

It is important that the remind_agent@localendar.com be added to your Yahoo group and marked as "no email" so that it does not send messages to it.

Any messages that may be subsequently sent to the remind_agent@localendar.com account from the Yahoo Groups messaging system will cause the account to become marked once again as "bouncing".

Rick -

Nice job, and worth a free year of Premium Webmaster for your efforts. smile Presumably, this means we can head off some of these issues by just "eating" remind_agent emails on our side and not bouncing them.
