I received the following concern froma parent regarding posting to the discussion forum: I posted a message this morning only to realize that email addresses are displayed and available for public view. This leaves me very concerned. Search engines such as Google, Msn and Yahoo all have programs that are called "bots". These bots basically scour the internet in search of cached pages for search purposes, but some companies (and/or spammers and/or general degenerates) also use bots for negative purposes. (Sending out porn spam, illegal product spam and general virus or trojans) All the bot would have to do is scan over this public page and it could pick up not only our emails, but the children's as well. What can be done to address this situation? Please advise. Thanks. |

Under My Profile, has the person unchecked the box for "Display my email address" ? They could also have their name hidden (and just have a generic signature which lists their name but no email) ---------------------------------------- Marc Higgins Support Associate, localendar.com Follow us on Twitter! http://www.twitter.com/localendar_news ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by support at Dec 6, 2005, 3:34:26 PM] |

Thanks for the response. Does this forum have the ability to track and control those who sign up? |

Internally, we do capture a sign-up date, but it's not currently exposed via any type of report or metrics. We've done similar reports for cobranded calendars, so adding them for the discussion boards is definitely possible. I hesitate to give you a firm committment though b/c we're currently backlogged with a bunch of features and minor fixes. ---------------------------------------- Marc Higgins Support Associate, localendar.com Follow us on Twitter! http://www.twitter.com/localendar_news |
