Edit this Post   Merge an iCal to an event category; filter by category; and category visible in list view Reply to this Post

It would be great if there was a simple way to merge an iCal and assign it to a specific event category already created in Localendar (e.g., General events, Music Events, Theatre events).

Having an option to filter the view by category (after the calendar has been embedded into your website) would be phenomenal as well!

It'd be nice to have the option to have the list view display the category of an event next to the title of the event (e.g., a ticky box to make this true or false).

Some of the calendar views already do have a Category Legend that let you filter events out by specific category.

But merging iCal events to a specific category is a good idea!

Events with custom categories that have a color associated with them *should* already use this color rather than a custom box, but I'll check. I'm not sure why you would want a checkbox next to every event though (is that to take the place of the checkbox in the legend? That seems like it would get messy)

In the list view, you cannot see the category of the event. E.g., list view goes like this -
Date / Name of event

But it would be great if the list view could be like
Date / Category of event (showing the color too) / Name of event

"Display category?" tick box would let you decide if you wanted just "Date / Name of event" or "Date / Category / Name of Event" for the whole list view. Definitely no individual ticky boxes for each individual event!!!!

E.g., "September 1 / Guest Performance / Willie Nelson "

I hope that makes more sense now!

So you mean for a list view like this:
http://www.localendar.com/public/lsumusic?style=M1

The color coding next to the event is not enough, and you would want to see the category name? There is a legend for the colors at the bottom of the list (along with checkboxes to toggle them)

Of course, for your particular calendar it looks like you have color-coded the iCal events *and* set up custom categories with the same colors. It helps because it suggests that the imported iCal events belong to particular categories since they actually can't be assigned this way right now. But it does make you think the checkboxes should toggle events on/off, which they won't since they are just eye candy.

It does raise the question though: Even if we did display the name of the category next to the event, since your events are all iCalendar this would have no effect.
