It appears that I'm not receiving email event reminders again. This seems to happen every now and then. Is there something that I can do, or this this for admin?

Thanks.

I, too, am having a problem with reminders not working. I My week-in-adcance reminder was not sent. I just edited it to "2 days in advance" so we'll see what happens.

We continue to be blocked by certain SMTP servers that think out reminders are spam (notably aol and roadrunner). We've made a few configuration changes and sent some emails - please let me know if you see any changes.

When people tire of seeing reminders and don't clear them at localendar but instead mark them as spam (out of convenience), it leads to this issue...

I too am having this problem. I would think that with the number of people that are reporting this problem that the problem is with Localendar, and not the individual users. I've checked my spam filters and Localendar is not blocked. I changed the email address to another one that doesn't have spam filtering & it still didn't come through.

As you can note from my other message; the problem isn't localendar, it's email servers rejecting localendar's email.

As I wrote above:

If enough people at an ISP report us as spam, then we can get blacklisted at that ISP. One option is to move the mail server's ip address, which is part of a temporary solution. We've been investigating other approaches which will hopefully prevent this problem from reoccurring.

Since we've been around for 6+ years, this is an issue a lot of other sites haven't had to face yet.

Marc,

Should we contact our ISPs or is this something that you're working from your end?

Thanks.

It might help quite a bit. Some ISPs get their spam mail list from external vendors, and if a user contacts them about a site that's not spam, they will "whitelist" it so it is not blocked.

One consequence of these issues is also that we will probably have to change the event reminder function to only send reminders to the calendar owner (via email, SMS, cell, etc). I think the ability to send reminders to anyone has been abused somewhat.

OK, I sent them an email and this was their response....

Thank you for choosing Road Runner Email Technical Support.

I understand you're having problems with the receipt of email messages
from certain addresses.

I can certainly address this issue for you.

Whenever an email server is unable to deliver a message, it will provide
a 'returned undeliverable' email notice to the sender. This
undeliverable notification will indicate the reason the email could not
be sent and it usually includes a link to a website which provides
further information.

You should contact those that cannot send email to you to find out if
they've received an undeliverable notice. If they have, and it indicates
the message was blocked for spam related reasons, inform them they
should have their Internet Service Provider visit
http://security.rr.com/mail_blocks.htm for information on how to remove
the block.

You may also check to see if the outgoing SMTP server of a sender is
being blocked by Road Runner at
http://security.rr.com/amIBlockedByRR.htm . To use this online tool, you
will need to have the IP address of the SMTP server that the sender is
using.

If the tool indicates that the block is a ?SpamHaus Block List (SBL)? or
?MAPS RBL-Plus? mail block, the sender will need to go to the websites
for these lists and follow their policies for requesting removal. The
website addresses for these two lists are:

SpamHaus Block List - http://www.spamhaus.org/lookup.lasso
MAPS RBL-Plus - http://www.mail-abuse.com/removereq_rbl.html

If the tool shows that the IP address's PTR record shows up as
'NXDOMAIN' or 'SERVFAIL', Road Runner's mail servers will reject your
mail regardless of your appearance on any of the lists we use, as per
our Inbound Sending Policy available at http://security.rr.com/spam.htm.
If this applies to your situation, contact your ISP or hosting provider
and request that they make sure your mail server's IP address has a
valid PTR record for reverse DNS.

If the reason listed on the undeliverable notice is not related to a
spam block, the sender should contact their Internet Service Provider
for further assistance.

If the sender does not receive a returned undeliverable message within
24 hours of sending the email that you did not receive; it may be that
the message never left their computer. It's also possible your email
program may have message rules setup to block email meeting certain
criteria. Please check such settings in your own email program and
contact those you're having trouble receiving from to suggest they do
the same. Additionally, disable any spam filtering software if you run
any on your computer.

So now what? I'm getting a little beyond my capabilities. confused

That's useful. I will have a look at their 'blocks' page and see what I can do.

Thanks!
