I'm a photographer and using the calendar to let clients check to see if I'm available (so no one but me is adding events, etc). Is there a way to know if potential clients are using this feature that I have given them?

Yes; you can use one of the many free web counters available on the net (do a quick search on Google), and paste the HTML they provide into your calendar's header or footer.
