I have my discussion board contained in a frame on my website and am having intermittent difficulties. The relevant code is: <iframe name="I1" width="940" height="764" src="http://www.localendar.com/forums/tbca"> Last night, and from time to time today, it works perfectly: the discussion boards come up (with their default formatting, blue & white colour scheme, arial font, etc., all categories and threads visible, etc.); I can log in, etc. But more often than not today, the discussion board comes up in a strange format and does not work. It is Times New Roman font; the "Administration" link is visible even though it says "Welcome Guest / Login" (i.e., I am not logged in), and no categories, forums or threads are visible (it says 0 for each under "General Information"). The web page is at http://members.shaw.ca/jack.wilson/Discussion%20Boards.htm Any suggestions? Thanks, Chris. |

Just wondering... is the background white? I think there may be a session timeout issue at work here; and rather than being re-directed to a login page, you're getting a page where parts are loaded correctly and parts aren't... BTW - uploading a custom style-sheet to change color prefs for the forums is coming *very* soon ![]() ---------------------------------------- Marc Higgins Support Associate, localendar.com Follow us on Twitter! http://www.twitter.com/localendar_news |

Yes, the background is white. Thanks for looking into this. Let me know if I can provide any more info. Chris. P.S. I like the current look of the discussion boards -- it suits my use of it perfectly... but I'm sure many will appreciate the CSS customization. |

I think it is a session timeout issue then. On localendar, when you sign in to the calendar portion, your session is valid for a certain period of time. The forums are actually a separate application essentially, and the length of a valid session should be the same as the calendar portion. I think those are getting out of sync however, causing this problem. I know the developers are looking into it. And the CSS part is great: Especially if you want to get rid of our logo and put your own there ![]() ---------------------------------------- Marc Higgins Support Associate, localendar.com Follow us on Twitter! http://www.twitter.com/localendar_news |

Any updates to report on this? When I first reported this issue I was having intermittent difficulties. But actually, I am the only one who has ever seen the discussion board at all: none of the people who use the tbca calendar have been able to see the discussion boards. I am looking a bit foolish having announced this feature! The url is http://www.localendar.com/forums/tbca, or see www.tunstallbay.org and click on the "Discussion" link. The discussion feature is the reason I paid for the Premium service -- please help! At this point I don't care if it is contained in a frame or is a separate link; just so long as I can get it to work. One possibility that has come to mind: could it be related to the fact that my url ("tunstallbay.org") is ghosted (i.e., remains the same no matter what link users click on?). I have no idea if this is related, but I'm trying to think of something that might help you track this problem down. Thanks, Chris. |

Hmmm - I've never seen a feature like this offered from a host, and I have no idea how it's implemented. But since we oftentimes use that url information ourselves, it seems very likely this would cause problems. When I hit the url directly via http://www.localendar.com/forums/tbca, I have no problems. Certaintly anyone should be able to see it there w/o difficultly. Can you somehow link to it directly w/o going through this ghosted url business? Perhaps a link that opens that url in a new window? <A href="http://www.localendar.com/forums/tbca" target=_blank>Go to my forums</A> ---------------------------------------- Marc Higgins Support Associate, localendar.com Follow us on Twitter! http://www.twitter.com/localendar_news |

Good suggestion, thanks. I arrived at more or less the same workaround myself (though I used _parent as the target) once I figured out that the domain name cloaking (as it is called, not "ghosting" as I had called it earlier) is simply a process of using frames. So fundamentally the two problems I was having are the same problem: I cannot consistently get the discussion boards to display correctly within a frame. If you have any suggestions about displaying the discussion boards within a frame, or if you can repeat the problem I have tried to describe, let me know. I believe I saw in other threads regarding the calendar that other users successfully include the calendar within a frame (as I do), so there should be no reason that the discussion boards cannot also be displayed within a frame. Thanks for all your work on this! Chris. |

Well, the calendars and discussion forums are completely different webapps, so this isn't necessarily true. In fact, I know we never envisioned the forums being in a frame (unlike the calendars, which have many publish styles), so the code might not be frame-friendly. I'll pass this along to the developers. ---------------------------------------- Marc Higgins Support Associate, localendar.com Follow us on Twitter! http://www.twitter.com/localendar_news |
