Google Maps has the advantage of a tiny bit more information that might help them resolve this discrepancy when you visit directly.

By looking at your IP address, then can see you're in the UK and thus assume you want a map in that area. I don't believe their public api lets us pass in that info, but I'll have it checked.

We send them the exact string entered in the location field, which Google geo-codes themselves.


Is this definitely a parsing error, then? I can't understand why there is a discrepancy between a click through from Lo-Calendar to Google Maps using a UK postcode and a search on Google using the same postcode but the results are different.

This is a great feature, but our local museum is a bit miffed about being located in a totally different town... Not a problem for locals, wh will know something is up, but a proportion of VL's users are tourists, often from the US, who might get confused.
