No, it's currently not possible to turn of this setting. But I'll past the request along to our Dev team for the member-submitted wishlist.

You would think that 6+ years later you could have taken care of this. I just paid for calendar upgrade, but I'm trying to find something else, as a community calendar becomes HUGELY cluttered with the images.
