applause   OFFICIAL MINUTES FROM HACK MEETING March 22nd, 2008
Great meeting! Totally out of order, and to hold your interest, and cause confusion... and just to see if you're paying attention, here are the meeting minutes, not in order of event dates:

The 2007 Out of Town Art Car Artists that drove the furthest were, Joy Johnson-Fliver and Jake Goldstein. Joy received her check, but Jake, now a local Houston art car artist, decided to give his money back to the Klub! Wasn't that so very nice? So, I have already used $50 of it for our dry goods for our Art Car Weekend 2008 Brunch. More on the Brunch later.
FYI - there will be no official television coverage of the Houston 2008 Art Car Parade. shock It's an issue of lack of budget, if I have my information right.
There was discussion about the importance of monitory awards for Parade winners. There was some discussion about the fact that no other parade in the country gives out money with their awards, some said it was good, some said it was bad, some said it was nice but not necessary..... this meeting was a SMALL sampling of HACK as a whole, but remember, if you're at a meeting, you actually get to voice your opinion about these things.....

Welcome to Houston Party
Wednesday, May 7
Dawn has confirmed Last Concert with me. Food will be set up for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian people. HACK will provide a keg, AND Fred and Pam Stafford have GENEROUSLY offered to donate another keg!! Woohooo! applause Thank you so much Fred and Pam. There will be a packet in your flier with info about this event. So, read your packet!

Illuminated Cruise
Saturday, May 10, gather at sunset, roll at dark - Art Car Museum Median
Kenny will be making the route (again) this year - thank you Kenny! applause He has also offered up a flatbed trailer and generator for Big Al Bettis to use so they can serenade us on the Cruise that evening. You guys should get together about this!

Evelyn discussed the Awards Ceremony after the Parade, on Parade day. It will be at Discovery Green, the new private park across from the George R. Brown Convention Center. There will be spots for art cars to park on the street around the park. There will be 40 slots available for 40 art cars in the promenade area of the park, but you must understand that you will NOT be able to leave that special area until AFTER the day's party is over, somewhere around 630p, under any circumstances. The cars that will be put in the promenade area will be chosen by lottery and that chance will be provided in your packet. So, read your packet! d oh
The Awards Ceremony will be held from 4p-630p. There will be vendors with food and drink, there are restaurants in the park area, bring money. There was discussion about some food and beverage(s) being provided to the artists, but we don't know the specifics yet. Remember, as always, rely on yourself! wink

The Art Car Bullock
Thursday night's gathering of art car weekend 08 at Kennywood - May 8 - is being put on by a Steering Committee that has made it very clear that: this is a no kid event, devilish that many weird things will be going on, bring all you need to have a good time, they need talented people, there will be a talent show, dressed in Drag races, photo opportunities, bands playing... it's all madness. This is a private party with no publicity and there was mention of tickets in your packet that will get your friends in, security will be in place, but there will be no charge, no "door", but it's not open to the general public and if someone is there that shouldn't be, they'll be removed! shhh Logistics of inside and outside, where and what, is all still going on. If you would like to be involved or donate to the event, please contact Susan Wingfield at swingfld@yahoo.com
Also, a while back Guy gave out some Student Driver Simulators. They would like to borrow them back for the evening please. Contact Susan if you have one to use that night!
A huge thank you to everyone putting on the Art Car Bullock!

Sunday, Art Car Weekend 08, HIT AND RUN:
The Hit and Run is a drive thru "funny" silly and a new addition to our Weekend of activities. Between 1015 and 1050am that morning, please drive thru as many drive thrus as you want and buy something off the dollar menu or get your morning coffee or your large soda for the Brunch that starts serving at 11am. If you are vegetarian, this is a great time to get your food, bring it to the Brunch and hang out with everyone else! What's the area you ask? ELLA, BETWEEN 610 NORTH LOOP AND 34TH!!! Any and all of these drive thrus. Remember, BUY something.

Sunday, Art Car Weekend 08, Brunch:

Thank you Johnny Rojas applause for cooking for us again this year. Very generous of you.
This event is sponsored by Visker's company, PJS Services - he will be providing the $350 for the food and will provide 2 portacans at this location! Thank you so much Visker for your generous contribution applause that is making this event possible!
Thanks to Jake's "return" of his travel money to the Klub applause , plates, napkins, packaged utensils with salt/pepper/napkin have already been purchased. You will need to bring a cup to drink out of, please purchase from the bar, I think there will be frozen drinks provided by Evelyn again, thank you for that Evelyn (hope I got that right!)
This is going to be a lot of fun!!

We had some special guests this meeting. A group from Gifts with Heart came out to see if we'd like to be involved in a booth workshop that will be happening on WACD 08 at a Lowe's store, location to be determined. It was voted that HACK will buy 100 cars, the same type of cars that are used at the Art Car Museum for the WACD Children's Art Car Making Workshop. All members of HACK need to start collecting doo-dads, glitter, glue, buttons, etc, for these Boy and Girl Scout Troop members to glue to these cars to make art cars. These cars will then be distributed to needy children thru the holidays. This is totally different than the workshop where children make and keep their own art cars. This workshop will not be at the Museum, and will provide an opportunity for these Scouts to earn a badge. This will also be categorized for the older children, so there will be some seriously cool looking art cars made for needy children, under our tutelage that day. We will coordinate more as we get closer to WACD 08, but the response from the group was overwhelming that we be involved in this activity!
You can go to www.giftswithheart.org and click on the TV Set to see past event, like the one we will be participating in this coming WACD.

Brother BrianBryan Award 2008:
What a hard award to give back once you've had it in your possession, but again it is time to nominate and vote on that special art car artist, the one who walks the walk and talks the talk of the art car community. I sent out a request for nominees, and I will be doing that again in April. You'll then be voting, via email to me once I send out the nominees. Start thinking of who you'd like to nominate. The only people ineligible to win are the current holder of the award - Kenny Browning - and the President, me.

HACK Happy Hour
As President I have to bring up location change as we have moved locations of the "official" HACK Happy Hour every year. At this meeting it was decided that Dark Horse should stay the Happy Hour location. New laws about smoking might have helped this a bit. And they have a new back patio/deck that is popular and have a wide variety of beverages for everyone. It was an overwhelming vote to stay there.

Calendar
You are using it and so you are informed. Keep it up! If you find something that YOU submit to be inaccurate, resubmit the entire entry and I'll delete the old, keep the new. If you find something I have submitted to be incorrect, drop me a line and I will change it. I pay for this calendar so I appreciate the fact it's getting used biggrin ... and that you guys are really keeping me/us in the loop of things that are going on around the City. Thanks so much! That being said, go to the calendar for art car scheduled events happening on April 9 (Happy Hour and Parade Packet Stuffing at the Orange Show), April 13 (Orange Show Art Car Weekend Kick-off Party and Parade Packet Pick up at the MFAH), and April 24 (Volunteer Sign up at Beavers BBQ, 5-7p).... then ck out our Weekend of activities. Also, check out Art Car Weekends Activities too!

HACK Website
Use it to keep up with current happenings, to link to our Calendar and our discussion boards.... I pay for and maintain this website as well, so thank you for using it! biggrin

That's it!
:)
