Hi folks, I'm brand-spanking new to this and was wondering if anyone can help me understand something that is probably pretty basic knowledge to all of you. I tried to do an internet search (couldn't find anything) for what sorts of legal stuff i need to adhere to when making a car that i won't drive everyday, but don't want to trailer it when i go places. Is it as simple as: if i'm gonna drive it anywhere (not just in a parade) it has to be street legal? This is probably a very stupid question, but i am hoping that if it is "art" maybe it doesn't need to meet all the legal (i.e. financial) requirements of a daily-driver???

By "financial" I assume you are referring to insurance.
You really need to talk to whoever you have your policy
with on your daily driver. My agent at Allstate gave me
a letter explaining that my 'parade car' was covered in the
same way as a rental would be for liability purposes,
provided I only drove it to and from and during the parade.
(this was 2006 when i took an older car out of storage to
enter). Usually my art car is my (legal) daily driver, so
that is the only time it has ever come up for me. I was never
stopped, so I don't even know for sure that the letter would
have done me any good, but it felt good having it.
