Reqest for "Daylight" US timezone choices in "Default Event Timezone" pull-down menu Currently on the "Options/Preferences" wepage, the "Default Event Timezone" pull-down menu choices show only "Standard" timezones that will be displayed for calendar events if the "Show timezone on calendar events" box to the right is checked. Can the equivalent "Daylight" timezone choices be added (i.e., "Eastern Daylight (EDT)", "Central Daylight (CDT)", "Mountain Daylight (MDT)", etc.) for display with calendar events when the "Show timezone on calendar events" box is checked? |

Don't most people specifically refer to EST and assume the viewer to know whether or not DST is in affect during that period? I think it's actually more confusing for U.S. and non-U.S. visitors to my LoCalendar webpage to see (in my case for Colorado) "MST" instead of the correct "MDT" times for this time of year. Sandard GMT-based "Standard Time" and "Daylight Savings Time" acronym definitions for timezones in the U.S. are used for Microsoft Control Panel "Date/Time" setting and by various software applications that time-stamp received email/documents of -- EST = Eastern Standard Time = North America = UTC - 5 hours EDT = Eastern Standard Time = North America = UTC - 4 hours CST = Central Standard Time = North America = UTC - 6 hours CDT = Central Standard Time = North America = UTC - 5 hours MST = Mountain Standard Time = North America = UTC - 7 hours MDT = Mountain Standard Time = North America = UTC - 6 hours PST = Pacific Standard Time = North America = UTC - 8 hours PDT = Pacific Standard Time = North America = UTC - 7 hours If it's not difficult to do, wouldn't it make sense for LoCalendar to provide these same timezone abbreviation choices to make calendar event-times truly accurate to distinguish when we're in the Daylight Savings Time part of the year? Re: Reqest for "Daylight" US timezone choices in "Default Event Timezone" pull-down menu A reasonable request :-), but upon some investigation one that won't be easy for us to accomodate w/o some major changes. The probem is that the localendar servers all operate on EST, not GMT. Which means that EST is stored as 0. EDT would be stored as 1. Not a problem until we get to CST, which is stored as -1. But that implies that CDT would be stored as 0, and thus indistinguishable from EST. There is an action item to migrate the servers/data from EST to GMT, after which point I'm sure we can accomodate this. In the meantime, I would recommend not displaying the timezone on your calendar if visitors find it confusing. You can add some text to the "common event description" field under Options->Events such as "All times MDT".
