Embedded Calendar- slow
I have embedded my calendar in two locations on our web site. The pages are very slow (4 to 5 seconds) to load. I have been using it for about three weeks with no improvement.

I really like the feature, especially the "today" view, and I want to continue to use it. Any advice?

For almost all but a completely empty calendar, 4-5 seconds is about the best retrieval time you're going to see.

This is because a lot of work is going on "under the hood" to build your calendar (calculating repeating events, skip dates, holidays, etc). Then, there's the amount of time it takes to physically send the data to the browser. Finally, a browser typically takes more time to render pages that contain a lot of HTML tables, which our calendars do.

The good news is, we scale very well. Take the big calendar example I put together for another member recently:

Over 200 events, and still around 5 seconds to display cool

Had we chosen an architecture where calendars were not built dynamically on every hit, we might have been able to shave off a second or two. But early on we decided that member changes should be reflected immediately on published calendars.
