Add Event button sometimes doesn't add the event Sometimes, when people use the Add Event button, I get a message that a new event has been added to the calendar. However, when I check the calendar, the event isn't on it and the poster questions what's happened. Here's the most recent one that I had to list myself that according to what I received from the system should have been on the calendar but wasn't: "A new event has been added to your calendar. Jazz Evolution at the New Bayou on 2/12/2009 Description Peter Liu and the Jazz Mutants present "Jazz Evolution", a new monthly event at The New Bayou. We would like to welcome a different jazz band each month to play our opening set, and one or two individual instrumentalists/vocalists are also invited to perform with the Jazz Mutants in the following two sets, with a requirement to attend at least one band rehearsal. Jazz venues in Ottawa are limited, particularly for developing musicians. We'd like to provide an alternative performance space for supportive collaboration and exploration. Cover is $5.00, and all proceeds will be donated to the Jazzworks Jazz Workshop. Level of skill in jazz may range anywhere on the learning path between advanced beginner and professional. Please contact Peter by phone at (613) 422-1649 or email at jazzmutants@yahoo.ca for more information, or if you are interested in participating in an upcoming Jazz Evolution evening. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You have chosen to make visitor-added events Public. This event is now visible to anyone viewing your calendar. You may log on to your calendar if you wish to edit or delete this event. To make visitor-added events Private until you approve them (or to disable these email notifications), log on to your calendar and click the Options button on the left menu. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- {Thank you for using localendar.com} So, in this case what was supposedly visible wasn't. Just wondering why this would happen and if there's anything on this part of the process that may need fixing? |

Re: Add Event button sometimes doesn't add the event Another member recently posted this same problem. I suspect the issue at work relates to event descriptions pasted from MS Word. Beyond the visible text you appear to paste, Word includes a lot of other baggage that blows out the 2,000 character limit in the event description. I think the Anonymous Event addition screen has a bug that is not informing users when this has occurred. Thus, it appears the event has been added successfully when in fact the underlying database will reject it. We are trying to duplicate this problem and either strip out Word's extra "junk", or provide an appropriate error message. ---------------------------------------- Marc Higgins Support Associate, localendar.com Follow us on Twitter! http://www.twitter.com/localendar_news |

Re: Add Event button sometimes doesn't add the event
Usually, when I've posted something from MS Word and the formatting has added more than the 2000 characters, I have gotten a more than 2000 characters message. The system didn't go ahead and indicate that the item was successfully posted when it wasn't so there appears to be something else going on. I did try a couple of test events using the Add Event button rather than my User ID and PW and they posted OK. All I can do right now when I'm notified of an event being added is check to see if it's really on and if not, add it myself. |
