Map link My published event includes a map link that goes nowhere. How can I correct or adjust?  |

Re: Map link Can you tell us the name/date of the event on your calendar? We'd like to check it out... Re: Map link I am having the same problem. I'm in Fort Smith AR and the map has taken me to Kansas and even another continent, but no where close to where I am. Help. |

Re: Map link What was the address text you entered in the "location" field. Ultimately, that is parsed by Google. Re: Map link I am also having problems with the map links. We are in the UK. If people don't enter a postcode (which for some events doesn't seem necessary) the map finds places in the US, which has really annoyed our local Lancaster City Museum. But, more worryingly, when they do post a postcode the map frequently directs them to a completely different part of town, miles away, or to an outlying village. It is reading the postcodes wrongly. I have checked this repeatedly and it is so. If I enter the postcode directly into google it gets it right - it is just through the localendar entries that it is wrong. This is problematic because it is not obvious to people that it is wrong and they waste time and money going miles out of their way and missing their event. There is no way to enter the addresses more fully or correctly. the map is just making up new locations for postcodes. We have just been using this for a couple of weeks and we are getting serious complaints. |

Re: Map link Further to this, it looks to me that I think this is actually a problem with the way information being parsed by LoCalendar to Google Maps. If you click the location link for Lancaster Museum on this event , for example, you are taken to Morecambe. But if you enter LA1 1HT into Google Maps direct , the Museum location is correctly found. As we said, the problem appears to be random: other locations are found prfectly, such as The Judges Lodgings (a little off, but not much); but Williamson Park is across town according to Google Maps. Thanks in advance for sorting this. |

Re: Map link Google Maps has the advantage of a tiny bit more information that might help them resolve this discrepancy when you visit directly. By looking at your IP address, then can see you're in the UK and thus assume you want a map in that area. I don't believe their public api lets us pass in that info, but I'll have it checked. Is this definitely a parsing error, then? I can't understand why there is a discrepancy between a click through from Lo-Calendar to Google Maps using a UK postcode and a search on Google using the same postcode but the results are different. This is a great feature, but our local museum is a bit miffed about being located in a totally different town... Not a problem for locals, wh will know something is up, but a proportion of VL's users are tourists, often from the US, who might get confused. |

Re: Map link I looked into the issue more, and it appears Google's accuracy problems with UK post codes are well-known: http://groups.google.com/group/Google-Maps-API/browse_thread/thread/a09156c3ba694e5d Clearly, Google is doing some additional work when you go directly to their front-end to get increased accuracy that they are not sharing via their public API.
