It would be nice to have the main, full-size calendar on one page (it's own) and a small summary calendar on another page. The small calendar would only show dates of the month and if a date is hovered, it displays any events for that day. Thanks.

Have you tried the interactive mini calendar under the Publish menu? See a sample here:

It does a lot of what you describe...
