my calendar is set to view monthly on my website - when I click on a date I see a weekly bar twice - shows even if I click day or week.

That's because you changed your default Day and Week display styles from "Default" to "List". The List view display events in a newspaper list format (rather than showing the list of hours, for example) and if there are no events, nothing is shown.

The "duplicate" Nav you saw is because there is navigation at the top and bottom of the list since it could be very long with this format.
