Re: New features: Filter categories and hide past events Hmm.. I can't see an immediate way out of this.. Since we are preserving the category filter for that specific calendar, 1 of 2 things is going to happen: 1) we can "clear" the filter when you hit the 2nd page with different categories selected, but that will also clear the filter on the original page or 2) we can preserve the filter (which is what we do now) which will lead to the issue you are experiencing. If it were me, I think I would create a 2nd calendar, and merge the first one onto it. Fundamentally, you would have 2 different calendars with the same events that should operate independently of one another. But that has 2 issues: 1) it's at least another Premium Basic subscription @ 9.95/yr (sorry!) 2) we aren't currently handling merged categories and their specific colors correctly (on our to-do list) ---------------------------------------- Marc Higgins Support Associate, localendar.com Follow us on Twitter! http://www.twitter.com/localendar_news |

Re: New features: Filter categories and hide past events Clearing the filter when you hit the 2nd page with different categories selected would probably be our preference. We are not sure what you mean when saying "that will also clear the filter on the original page" or at least we dont see the issue related to that. Our understanding is that if you load a page with preset filters, the preset filter would take precedence. If no preset filters, the previous filters would be preserved. Would there be a possibility to test it? |

Re: New features: Filter categories and hide past events What I mean is, we only track one set of filtered categories for a calendar, and you are trying to display the same calendar on different pages with different filters. Up on the localendar server, we're still thinking of this as a single calendar. localendar can't tell it's being used on different pages. So even if we reset the filter when you hit the calendar's "main entry point" (think: localendar.com/public/PALCmain), there will come a time when you navigate to different months on either page, and one of them will be out of sync with the filter the user expects will be active. ---------------------------------------- Marc Higgins Support Associate, localendar.com Follow us on Twitter! http://www.twitter.com/localendar_news |

Re: New features: Filter categories and hide past events That's if both pages are open in parallel and you switch from one to another. I understand that this cant be addressed but I would think these would be pretty rare cases. What's more common is that the user will hit a link on our website directing to another page with the same calendar but different pre filters. If the user does not change the pre-filters before going to the next page, the next page pre-filtered calendar appears correctly. However, if the user changes the pre-filter and goes to the next page, the next page calendar shows the last filters and not the pre-filters. Again, we can simply remove the filters if this is too hard to fix... |

Re: New features: Filter categories and hide past events We've been looking at user behavior from our logs, and actually, we are seeing instances of both cases. If there was a clear winner here, we would definitely change the functionality. After examining the usage as it is, I think there will always be about 50% of our members who won't get exactly what they expect. For now - although it's difficult for me to say since you are one of the few members publicly making your case - we're going to keep the present functionality so we can devote resources to some other enhancements. ---------------------------------------- Marc Higgins Support Associate, localendar.com Follow us on Twitter! http://www.twitter.com/localendar_news |
