Preview of New Calendar StyleThis has been a long time in coming, but it's just about ready... Suppose you have a public calendar like: http://www.localendar.com/public/spandemo Kind of messy, right? Wouldn't it look nicer if multi-day events were merged together like this: http://www.localendar.com/public/spandemo?style=M4 We think so One of the reasons this was so complicated for us is because (unlike most of the other calendars out there) we support events that repeat multiple days, multiple times in the week. Like this simple example: http://www.localendar.com/public/spandemo1?style=M4 Most of the other folks just let you take an event and have it repeat for a few days a single time. We realize though, that our "advanced repeating" functionality is more than many people need, so we'll be adding an easy way to do simple repeats also. In the meantime, yes, you can try out the new format simply by adding ?style=M4 to your public calendar link. It only works for the full page style right now, but it will work everywhere in the next week or so. Oh - one other quick thing: This will probably become the default month-view style in the near future. Happy localendaring! ---------------------------------------- Marc Higgins Support Associate, localendar.com Follow us on Twitter! http://www.twitter.com/localendar_news |

Re: Preview of New Calendar Style Dear Marc, While I applaud your efforts to redesign the looks of your fine fine calendar, may I suggest that you give USERS the option to choose between the "new" and the "classic" look. It's hard to please everyone, I know.. Never been easy. jessejazz. |

Re: Preview of New Calendar Style My mistake: The old views aren't going away; we're just adding another one. The ability to pick the preferred view is part of this enhancement. Right now, there are a lot of alternate views which can only be used on Published calendars. The idea is to let any of them be your basic view. (New members will receive the new M4 view by default though, which was my original point) ---------------------------------------- Marc Higgins Support Associate, localendar.com Follow us on Twitter! http://www.twitter.com/localendar_news |

Re: Preview of New Calendar Style Now I have no menu on the left side of the screen and cannot add new events. Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone know what it wrong? I am able to edit events already added; I just cannot add new because there is no button to click. Help!! |

Re: Preview of New Calendar Style As noted in the parent post, this view is still being worked on. The links posted were for demonstrating *published* views using this new style. As also noted above, there are many views beyond the basic day/week/month ones. As part of this enhancement, you will be able to set any of them as your default. ---------------------------------------- Marc Higgins Support Associate, localendar.com Follow us on Twitter! http://www.twitter.com/localendar_news |

Re: Preview of New Calendar Style I am using the New Calendar Style and I noticed that one repeating notice was double the thickness of another repeating notice. I prefer the clean look of the thinner repeating notice. Any suggestions on getting them both to be of the thinner variety? The thicker one included a week-end day. I wonder if that had anything to do with it? See: http://www.localendar.com/public/WaioraInformation?style=M4 as to what I mean. Thanks, Robert in Hawaii |

Re: Preview of New Calendar Style
This is correct. Because the (green) weekend day event spans multiple lines, the yellow week-event needs to be expanded to match its size. ---------------------------------------- Marc Higgins Support Associate, localendar.com Follow us on Twitter! http://www.twitter.com/localendar_news |

Re: Preview of New Calendar StyleOne think I would love to see is the week-block view have the look of the month block view so you can differentiate the colors. I like block view to post assignments for my classes throughout the day in a merged calendar, but it gets to large after a week or two of events. I really feel the week view block and list are kind of busy looking. Thanks |

Re: Preview of New Calendar StyleLove the new layout, but having a small problem with the background color...it won't 'stick.' When I go back to the 'old' style, the backgournd color i set shows up...when I use the new style, I get the default blue instead of the black...is this a known glitch? (couldn't find it in the known problems listing...) http://www.localendar.com/public/HerndonBand?style=M4 |

Re: Preview of New Calendar StyleLove the look of the new style. Just a quick question: on some of the days, the line at the bottom of the date block disappears. Is this something I am doing? It looks okay on the regular style.... http://www.localendar.com/public/troop522nega?style=M4 If you look at Oct 2006, the line between Oct 10 & Oct 17 is gone (at least on my view) I am still pretty new to localendar, so please forgive if this has been addressed and I am just missing something.... |

Re: Preview of New Calendar Style So far the idea is great but the display sucks. You have removed borders from events and that does not look good. I will have to go back and set a background color for everything to try and improve the appearance. If I open the calendar using ?Style=M4 it will naturally open in the current month. If I then click on a moth link at the top of the calendar rather than use the navigation arrows, it reverts back to the classic calendar. ---------------------------------------- Bob Crawford 2005 GL 1800 |

Re: Preview of New Calendar Style
Very interesting thing happend on your calendar. I you click on the month links at the top, that month is displayed in the classic mode and worse yet, the google ads appear on the right side of the page. I have the feeling that this new calendar format is part of the reason our calendars are being squeezed of late. I hope you guys will quit messing with the live site and do you testing on another server before something bad happens. PLEASE, I get all the feedback when something is wrong. ---------------------------------------- Bob Crawford 2005 GL 1800 |

Re: Preview of New Calendar Style I like the new format; however, since there is now no box arond each event it is a little confusing when one starts and one stops. http://www.localendar.com/public/albuquerquechristian?style=M4 The event on 11/20 and the event on 11/21-23 all kind of merge together. Is there a way to the bounding box back? |

Re: Preview of New Calendar Style For this view, we specifically left the box out b/c it adds a lot of clutter to the display. I would suggest color-coding your events to avoid the confusion. ---------------------------------------- Marc Higgins Support Associate, localendar.com Follow us on Twitter! http://www.twitter.com/localendar_news |

Re: Preview of New Calendar Style
Question 1 - Will borders ever be brought back for the M4 Style ? I love the new format (M4 Style) with the merging of events which span multiple days - for me this is a really great overall enhancement. However, I personally would much prefer to have the option to select a border or not, wether it is the old style of border or a new thin line type. Much like the border around the above quote, or the border which separates sections of these messages. They are precise, clean and clearly separate. Color preference is fine for those who are into splashy colorful calendars. I am not into an overly colorful display for my calendar and would very much prefer to be able to activate a small precise border around each event (multiple day or otherwise). http://www.localendar.com/public/bladetek?style=M4 Question 2 - Was the default "today' background color removed from the M4 display or is this unique to my situation ? I have looked at many other calendars via the links shown in the forums and they all seem to have this default as non-active ! ! (Not that most folks are not aware of what day it is . . . ) I know that not very many people have spoken up regarding a preference for borders, however I find borders around events as more attractive - precise - eye catching etc etc etc Brian aka Bladetek ![]() |

Re: Preview of New Calendar Style I've seen this question asked but don't find the fix- the ?style=M4 looks great when you open a calendar but if you choose another month, the style reverts to day-to-day events rather than spread across. I have another calendar w/premium options but started a completely different venture for my company using the free version. This calendar is http://www.localendar.com/public/bangersusa?style=M4 How can we maintain the M4 style to see prior and future months? Thanks! M at bangersusa |

Re: Preview of New Calendar Style I put in the ?styleM44 and previewed what my calendar would like like in the browser. For some reason it changed the color of the "day of the week" in month view and was the same color as the background on my calendar so it wouldn't show the numbers - even though the day text on my monthly calendar is set to "black". I like the look of the new layout but don't want to mess up the colors on my calendar trying to reset them all. Is there some reason it would change the color of the text to the same as the background in the newer format? |

Re: Preview of New Calendar Style I agree with bladetek - I'd like to see borders on the M4 style if you are taking votes! One question / issues I am experiencing... I have M4 style in my calendar and the multiple day events format works great! If you click the left or right arrow the format remains the same as expected. However, if you click on a specific month (Jan, Feb, Mar list) from the top, the format seems to be lost and it returns to the individual listing of a mutiple day event (pre M4 formatting). Here is our calendar if you need to test this: http://www.lstreets.org/calendar.html |

Re: Preview of New Calendar Style Hi Michelle, Are you talking about your public calendar, or when you sign into localendar.com? If public, what link are you using for your calendar? It should be http://www.localendar.com/public/teachermichelle If you have a "start_date=" parameter on the link, that would force your calendar to jump to a specific day. If when you're signed in... just click "month" underneath the navigation calendar on the left menu. ---------------------------------------- Marc Higgins Support Associate, localendar.com Follow us on Twitter! http://www.twitter.com/localendar_news |

Tons of 'localendar users' love this view, I know I do. Wow, has any progress been made in maintaing this view. The linked small monthly-header-text when selected causes an "exit" from the view. Make the M4 view the default localendar view and Voila! Problem solved ? ? Worth a try ? ![]() |

Re: Preview of New Calendar Style Hi, I am new to localendar so please excuse me if this is a stupid questions. I have built 3 different calendars for my church website. However, I am unable to go from month to month on the actual website. Now when I log onto localendar I see the scroll arrows and even the months posted and I can scroll that way but not from the actual website that they are linked to. Is there a setting that I have missed? If you would like to check out the website the address is www.tenthstreetworldoutreach.com thanks in advance judyngm |

Re: Preview of New Calendar Style I can hardly wait. I have been using the M4 view pretty well since it was released, and I love it. (I still would love to see borders re-included) However I suspect that most visitors don't get to enjoy this format due to the "format exit bug". I'm certain that when wanting to view more than a month or two in advance, the average user will simply click on the text link in lieu of the scrolling arrows. . . http://www.localendar.com/public/bladetek?style=M4 |

Re: Preview of New Calendar Style I think that I have a 'useable' work around to the style-exit when users select the linkable text at the calendar top. At least this seems to work for my situation, since the calendar is embedded onto my webpage. I've simply placed a text-box in such a way that it layers over top of the calendar text which causes the styl-exit. ? I remain hopeful that an internal fix is in the works.Love the new transition effects. . . . . . To see how this works, go to my website link below. |
