View Special Characters for German [Umlaute] correctly
In the download calendar german special characters are not shown. Look at www.bbk-nuernberg.de/events.html, e.g. the month März (March) is not shown correctly. Can this be fixed?

Thanks for your help

Sorry about that! I think we left our März in Heidelberg by mistake (or was it our Herz? German wasn't my best subject.. neither was humor wink )

It should display correctly now

Hi,

I'm a totally fan of your online-calendar tool - since I have discovered it a few days ago. :-)

I have quite the same problem with my calendar (https://nutrition.univie.ac.at/studium2/durchs-studium/pruefungen/pruefungskalender-test/).
Here I have merged a calendar and the special characters (for German) of the merged events are not shown (in the month's block view and the pop-window). (It just works with events I've added directly via localendar.)
>> Watch an example of such event on 21st Feb 2015, called "Neuer Prüfungskalender online! ...".

Could it be that there's a general problem with merged events? sad
I've discovered some further formatting problems with such type of events:
In the popup-window - which will be opened when you click on an event, the shown text of the event's location and further information is not formatted (e.g. bold, italic or hyperlinks are not formatted as it should be, as well as paragraphs are not shown in the text).

Please could you help me asap, I want to present the calendar and your tool next week to my colleagues?! smile

Thanks,
MWR

The issue with special characters on some imported iCalendar events should be fixed! (Assuming of course that the icalendar provider properly encodes these characters on their end)

Great, now it works fine and all the special characters are shown correctly! smile

Regarding the formatting of the text displayed in the pop-up window: could you also help me to present the text (e.g. bold, italic, hyperlinks) as it was formatted in the origin event?

Best regards,
MWR

I think I can help you with this one. Go to pages 12-15 of the documentation .pdf file. On page 12, on the 'Add Event' screen, you will see below 'Description:' a ribbon which includes Bold, Italic, Underline, Font size, etc. Just highlight the text in the Description (which is what shows on the Popup) you want to change, and then apply what you want. Then Preview it.

That screen shot is actually not up to date. On the second line a 'link' icon has been added (hovering over the icons tell you what they are) where you can add a link to a webpage, and open it in a new window if you want. You can also upload an image (two icons to the right of the link icon) and/or do your modifications in the Source Code directly (one icon to the right of the link icon).

I find these options quite useful, and most of my events use them to more or less of a degree. It is unfortunate that the format of importing/exporting to/from iCal and CSV don't support these types of additions. That means a lot of manual work is required.

Just to echo the above..

The format of the text in the pop-up should match what you have entered in the event description.

I created a test event with a description that included bold, italics, and underline text. The pop-up showed this text correctly.

If you are not having success, can you please point us to a sample event/date on your calendar where the text is not correctly shown?

Re: View Special Characters for German [Umlaute] correctly
Hi,

thanks for your answer. I just have a quite differenciating problem with the format because I merge my events and in the origin events there is still a formatting which should be also shown on the published localendar.

Nevertheless, thank you very much. :-)

Re: View Special Characters for German [Umlaute] correctly
Hi,

thanks for your try to fix the bug.
(Don't wonder - since my last post I had to change my user-name and had to create some further calendars... biggrin )

Nevertheless the "problem" still appears - here you can watch an example:
https://nutrition.univie.ac.at/news/pruefungstermine/ (User: IfEW_Pruefung2)

If you go to the event "Test" (2015-01-01) there should be the text formatted as mentioned in the text: bold, italic, bold+italic+font-color (red), link (to http://www.localendar.com).

Apart from that: Would it possible to obtain the design of the information according to the "location"?
While there's only a location included the design is OK.
But when I add a further message - such as formatted text :-) - to the event, the location will be shown directly towards the message without any paragraph or anything else.
It would be fine if the location would be formatted with a paragraph and/ or the label "location" itself would be formatted bold.
(Sry, I know that's not the suitable forum for all my questions:-(

Some of my colleagues called attention to the date and time formatting in the pop-up windows for events with different browsers. I've rechecked it with (Firefox 36, Internet Explorer 11, Chrome 40, Safari 5.1.7) and unfortunately it's true.

With firefox the formatting is for German language by approx. 90% correct, with all the other browsers (as well as with smartphone browsers) it's a combination of German and English parts of date and time.

Would it be possible to update the styles according to the mentioned German style below:
"[hh; hours-start]:[mm; minutes-start] - [hh; hours-end]:[mm; minutes-end] Uhr, [dd; day].[mmm; month as text].[yyyy; year]"

Here an example:
14:00-15:30 Uhr, 4. März 2015 (which means 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM on 4th March 2015)

Furthermore with browses such as Chrome, Internet Explorer and maybe some others, it can happen that if you have opened the website where the iframe is embedded and you open more than a few pop-up windows with further information to the event (without reloading the website) , that no data is available excepting the date itself (instead of the title it is shown "[No Title]" and instead of a specific time, "ical", the location i.e. it is shown "null").
What could be the problem with that?
My immediate action will be to add a refresh via html which might be useful...?! But when it would be possible I would appreciate a general solution. smile

Thanks in advance...

Ah; I see that your question applies to events imported via iCal and not entered natively into localendar.

For the test event in question, I see it comes from a Google calendar export. The iCal format does have extensions for exporting formatting information, but Google is not using them. In the exported iCal file, your event description looks like this:
DESCRIPTION:\n\nbold italic (bold+italic+red color) Link<http://www.localen
dar.com>\n

No formatting information was sent to localendar, so nothing appears on the event. Next item!

Location should always appear on a new line. I see this is not the case for imported iCal events, and will get that fixed. Next item!

Date formatting. Strange that you would see a difference across browsers, because we format the date as text on our side; a browser would not have any cause or reason to change it.

I think we have resolved the time display issues (except adding Uhr). Please let me know.
