Thank you for attending Sunday's HACK meeting. love struck Nice turn out on a beautiful day!

It has been requested that all the rest of our meetings before ACWeekend 2009, start later so there's more time for creating in daylight. We'll start our next meetings before the Weekend activities at 6pm instead of 5pm.

I am still taking nominations for the Brother Brian Bryan Art Car Award for 2009. If you haven't submitted your nominee, please do so to me ASAP! praying Remember, this is the person who walks the walk and talks the talk of a Houston art car artist on a daily basis..... representing the life of an art car artist in Houston as a routine part of their daily lives. I will be sending out that list of nominees shortly and you will have a week to vote on your winner! Send your nominations to Nicole@nicolesbrain.com The only people not eligible are the President and the current Award holder.

Please refer to the HACK website for info about ACWeekend 2009 - EVERYTHING IS THERE... smug and the ACBall link will be up as soon as I get the ok.

Steve, Chairing the Main Street Drag on Friday morning, is looking for Team Leaders. Basically you lead a caravan of art cars with a police escort. It is suggested that you drive your route the weekend before so you're familiar with it, before leading your caravan. If you are interested in doing this, please contact Bryan at santaclauscar@yahoo.com and he will pass your information on to Steve.

A huge thank you to Ken Crimmins for putting on the Art Car Ball this year. I will notify you when the site is up and running so you can fill in your form details to perform and/or bring your art car. All information about ACW 2009 is on the HACK website, but the ACBall website is not live yet till Ken approves the info on it.

I've asked the Orange Show to post all trophy workshops and volunteer parties on our Calendar so you'll get a reminder ahead of time. And the Kick Off party is in April, they are settling between 2 dates and they know the place but are finalizing the details and as soon as I know, you'll know, and they'll post it to the calendar. Don't forget to use the calendar for your parties, band gigs, art car shows, art car requests, etc.

Thank you to Kenny Browning for writing the Illuminated Cruise route again this year. hugs This is a huge undertaking, a very big job and no one does it better. You truly are the Illuminated Cruise writing King! WE WILL NOT BEING GOING UP AND DOWN HEIGHTS OR BY THE ART CAR MUSEUM, WE WILL NOT BE STAGING AT THE ART CAR MUSEUM The Illuminated Cruise will be STARTING AT THE ORANGE SHOW AT DUSK.

At the request, and with respect to Tom Jones' family, there will be no Tom Jones memorial video tributes on Parade Weekend 2009, and the Sunday Brunch will not be in his name. His loss is still felt very deeply by the Art Car Museum Staff and, of course, his family, so HACK and the Orange Show will honor their wishes and not use his name on anything this year. Thank you for your understanding regarding this matter, you were all very kind about it when I discussed it at length at the meeting this past Sunday. We all know he'll be on our minds and in our hearts. I have no current information about Tom's assailant or court proceedings. When I get any, I will update his page on the HACK website. I know you are as curious as I, but would like to respect the privacy of the family and his closest friends - getting details can be disrupting and unpleasant.

Thank you to Ben Gibson and Jake Goldstein. hugs They will be rigging 2 porta cans on a trailer to take with us on the Illuminated Cruis on Saturday evening. Jake will also be "shopping" for new porta can rental facilities applause , but we'll discuss using Big K Cans as they have been our supplier for years. They were eaten up by a national chain and their services have been difficult to deal with... however they did manage to get our portacans to us on NYE, but it was a mess and we could have been without. They may have lost that local touch so we're inspecting new avenues and opportunities, keeping our options open.

The Welcome to Houston Party will be huge this year. dancing I've asked for more food and non-alcoholic bevs, in 3 passes, buffet style, one keg of beer and there is budget for it, thanks to you participating in the Trader's Village event in October 2008. You earned it, so come out and enjoy it. No media is invited, this is our private time to meet and great our out of town artists as they roll in for this long weekend of activities. Thank you Cony for helping with parking this year. The band Pot Roast is a huge hit in Houston at Last Concert Cafe and if you feel like staying and joining the throngs of people who go every week to see and hear them, they start at 930p and you are welcome to stay. Our Welcome party is 6-10p.

This year, as every year, we see changes to our Weekend line up of events. There will be 2 events at the Orange Show, one is a Post Parade Tailgater on Saturday, and the other will be the Sunday Brunch and Award's Ceremony. There will be portacans and staff on site for us Saturday, and this is a great opportunity for out of town artists to visit the OS after rolling thru the Parade that was inspired by the Orange Show. The Sunday Brunch was going to be at the Art Car Museum but there's not enough parking for all of us as the City of Houston says we cannot park on the median there any more - and they tore it up real good when they filled it with railroad repair equipment and supplies. The Sons of Hermann lodge was either not available or was too expensive - my apologies for not remembering which. For these, and the other reasons mentioned above, it is now back at the Orange Show. It was pointed out to me that for out of towners, going to the same place more than once is a comforting thing as it's a familiar location. That was nice to hear. One person would like to see a covered, indoor, a/c area for a post parade party venue and I've asked him to work on that and if he can set it up and get everyone on the same page in the next 10 days, maybe our line up will be different. Until then, or if that does not happen, please expect we'll be at the Orange Show for 2 events. (It was generous of the Orange Show to offer this tailgater as they will have to staff the Show, open the porta cans, etc, for us to be there). I won't be discussing any more about the Weekend in these minutes as everything else is on our website - www.houstonartcarklub.com

Parade Packet Stuffing will be on a Wednesday as usual, at the Orange Show, and all artists are encouraged to show up after 5pm to help out. I will let you know the date as soon as it is finalized. I will take care of HACK fliers for the packet, Ken will take care of the Ball flier.

New home page on the HACK website, ck it out.

Thank you Dennis Dillow for organizing the HACK with World-Fest Houston. We are requested on Friday, April 17. All art cars who participate will get Silver passes that are good for all the movies showing for 2 weeks at the theater. Please contact Dennis at ddillow@verizon.net Harrod Blank will be in town promoting his movie, Auto-morphosis, on the 18 and 19 and that would be a great opprotunity to use the pass you earned the evening before! The details are on the calendar and we will organize this as the date gets closer. Let's plan on showing up and supporting Harrod and his movie. smile

Kim and John Ritter are having a PJ Party on April 11, please ck out the website calendar for details. biggrin Also, Kim needs contributions for her PeiceMobile art car. Please email her at kritquilt@comcast.net for details.

Check out Art Car Nation at http://artcarnation.ning.com/ - this has been put together by Dale "Snake" Gerber. Thanks Dale!

The Bayou City HEB Fun Run was a success. 6 art cars showed and it was a cold morning. Mitch Pengra's request turned up 4 art cars this past Saturday afternoon and it was a beautiful day at this very special private school he works for, lovely facility and grounds. These events that we get invited to are very cool because it gives those who show up an opportunity to visit with each other for longer periods of time. I have a great picture on my Face book page of John and Mary Tyska with their Ping Pong Ball art car. I encourage you to join face book if you haven't already. It's a great social network of and for art car artists, skaters, and their friends and keeps us more connected.

Finally I'd like to thank you biggrin for all you do to make the Houston Art Car Klub a success. You're a great group of fun people who are generous with your time and money (even on the sly to me for the KLUB), and I'm honored to know all of you. Again, thank you for all you do! Please don't ever feel like you can't drop me an email or phone me and let me know what I left out or what I can do to make the Klub better!

(I probably left something out, so I'll update as I'm informed. Getting old is hard on the ol memory! tired )

:)
