Please participate in the conversations going on – I just updated sections and moved them around!! USE THESE – they are there for you!!! Trader’s Villlage Annual Art Car Show 2009 - Thank you all for enduring the weather and coming out to participate in the annual Trader’s Village Art Car Show on Sunday, October 4th. It was a wet day, but a lot of fun and couldn’t have happened without you! We were also invited to volunteer at the annual Orange Show Gala workshop BBQ that day. Some of us made it out there after Trader’s Village - the food was really good and decorations were made. Thank you to David Haim for leading an art car caravan to Trader’s Village on Sunday morning. Super congratulations to Susan Venus for her Catailac that took Best in Show. She won $100! The Founder of Trader’s Village passed away about 3 months ago. He was an AVID art car fan and was responsible for getting us shown at Trader’s Village every year. You can read his obit here: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/dfw/obituary.aspx?n=joe-kelly-pace&pid=126289806 Thank you to Kim and John Ritter for organizing and hosting a wonderful Galveston Party and Illuminated Cruise thru the Galveston on Saturday, September 19th. Was big fun and most generous of you!! HACK Happy Hour still happens at the Dark Horse, is on the calendar and reminders go out the day before. The request for art cars is increasing. As I get full information from people looking to include you in their events/parties, I forward to you and ask them to post their event(s) on the HACK calendar, so if you don’t respond to an email request for art cars, you can always check the HACK calendar for events going on around town and do it at a later date. Don’t forget to enter your events and parties on the HACK calendar as well! There is a movie company called Del Monte Films and they are producing an art car movie – www.artcarthemovie.com for more info and details. They’d like to talk to you if you fit certain criteria. Jill gave me some baggies that have Jeff Towns’ ashes for those of you who would like to keep some in your art car, scatter them at events you know he’d want to be a permanent part of… or while you’re doing donuts! I still have some baggies left over and will be giving them back to Jill on Friday, the 9th. If you didn’t get any, please contact her if you are wanting some: jilldoe77@yahoo.com Upcoming events/happenings/things to plan for: October 17 – The Texas Mile – while Jake Goldstein and crew will not be racing in the Texas Mile, he will be going and has invited you to go along. A Tom Kennedy / Ripper Society Art Auction is happening that evening and I am trying to coordinate that into our schedule. Dinner will be at Teotihuacan Mexican Café, 1511 Airline Dr., 713-426-4420, exact time will be sent out via email and updated on calendar. We will then cruise the city all illuminated on one of Kenny Browning’s fabulous Cruise Routes – parts unknown. We need a band on a flatbed and a porta can or two cruising along with us – who would like to take these duties on? Just drop me a line – Nicole@nicolesbrain.com WE HAVE GORGEOUS dash plaques in the works – yay!! -thank you to Perri Harper! Tom Kennedy / Ripper Society Art Auction – This in from Lisa Nigro: I spoke with Melissa earlier this week and the Auction is a go. Below is the info - Now we need the art! And ready to post the following to HACK... Calling all Houston artists! Please make a donation of art to auction in support of the preservation Tom Kennedy's art(cars)! Friends of Tom & the Ripper Society in San Francisco are holding an auction on what was Tom's birthday, October 28th. I thought folks in Houston would also be interested in making a contribution in Tom's other stomping ground, sweet and swetty Htown... All who are interested in donating a piece, please contact me by email: lisa@dragonmistress.biz. Auction to be held at: BLOSSOM STREET GALLERY HOUSTON SUNDAY NOVEMBER 14TH, 6-10pm The exhibition will be up for one week. Thanks in advance for your support, Lisa http://www.lisanigro.com http://www.drakaarts.org http://www.dragonmistress.biz 206 Mission Road . San Antonio . Texas 78210 USA; cell (707) 235-3923 … The auction date was originally on Sunday, November 15th, but has been moved to November 14th so we’re trying to work out details since that’s WACD Houston. GLOWORAMA – November 28 - This in from Evelyn Fasnacht: You asked for it – You’ve got it!! An officially sanctioned nighttime parade of fully illuminated Art Cars! The parade will pass in front of the GRB @ 9 after the Autorama closes for the day and will be televised by KTRK/ABC. It will be streamed live on ABC13.com, shown live on their sister cable channel and re-broadcast on Channel 13 on December 12. The parade will end with a firework display after the last car passes by the TV cameras. As they exit the parade route, the 30 or so most illuminated cars will cruise into Hall A of the GRB to become the lighting and the decoration for the AfterGlow. The AfterGlow will be an amped up version of the art car ball – indoors, so protected from any weather – with a live band and a variety of pop up performances throughout the evening – the more bizarre and visual, the better. Funds raised by the AfterGlow will support the parade.Entry forms are available at www.ArtCarsofHouston.org/participate.html or just drop a line & a pic to info@ArtCarsofHouston.org . Interested Performers– or if your car “performs” – drop an email to Performances@ArtCarsofHouston.org. Interested Volunteers– please drop a line to Volunteer@ArtCarsofHouston.org . The parade is free and open to the public and will be supported by AfterGlow ticket sales. Tickets to the AfterGlow are available at www.GLOWORAMA.com and discount codes are available through Art Car Artists until October 15. There are daytime opportunities as well. The AutoRama (which has generously donated Hall A for the AfterGlow) has invited us to display Art Cars outside each of their ticket booths during their show – Thursday – Saturday 10-9, Sunday 11-5. No need to commit for the entire time – just let us know when you’d like to show up so that we can schedule coverage. If interested, drop us a line at info@ArtCarsofHouston.org Every participant– regardless of the extent of your participation – will receive a ticket to the Autorama. Every Art Car in the parade will receive 2 tickets to the AfterGlow. There are no fees to Art Car Artists/Owners for participation in any portion of the event. And while the AfterGlow was designed to raise funds for the parade, we decided to keep the ticket price affordable as this is our first year, and the economy is still “off”. Therefore, our partner, Houston Downtown Alliance, will be soliciting sponsors to assist with the funding of the parade. Sponsorships levels are very flexible and may include TV exposure if desired. If anyone has any leads, or works for a company that would like to participate, please drop us a line info@ArtCarsofHouston.org and we will put you in touch with the proper person at HDA. If you have any questions, would like more information or need printed material please don’t hesitate to contact info@ArtCarsofHouston.org . You and your friends may also follow us on the Facebook page, “Art Cars of Houston, Inc” for event updates.. Artists/owners may join the Facebook group, “Houston Art Cars” for interactive communication with fellow Art Car Artists & Owners. (and if anyone understands Facebook pages & groups, please let Evelyn@partycars.net know – cuz she could sure use some help with it!) New Year’s Eve and HACK! - There will be no official Houston Art Car Klub New Year’s Eve Party for 2009. Kennywood/The Silo is unavailable. If you are having a party or know of an event, please post it on the HACK calendar. First Night in Austin on New Year’s Eve – I sent out an email with this information already. Travis with www.firstnightaustin.org is looking for Illuminated art cars for their family oriented, alcohol free event from 4pm-midnight. He has enough funding to pay each artist chosen $200 to attend. If you are interested in being in their Parade, being part of their event from 4pm-past midnight on New Year’s Eve 2009, staged on the First Street Bridge after their parade, please drop Travis an email with your car’s info and a picture to submissions@firstnightaustin.org. I will post his email on the HACK discussion board in case you need to read it again. I’ve scanned my notes, tried to remember everything and that seems to be all for the moment. I’ve probably left something out and if so I’m sorry and would you please drop me an email telling me what it was? Thanks for playing!
