OFFICIAL MINUTES FROM HACK MEETING Sunday, September 23, 2007 PRESIDING: Nicole Strine, HACK President & Treasurer LOCATION: Freebirds Patio, Shepherd Plaza Please use the calendar! Please encourage others to use the calendar if they are looking for art cars at their event(s). I've noticed that the discussion board for "requests for art cars" is being used by outsiders, but the events are not also being posted on the calendar.... this is BAD as the events/requests are being missed cuz you guys aren't looking at the discussion boards. FYI - I will be working on updating the site so that I can personally manipulate it, taking my hubby out of the loop. He's WAY to busy to keep up with the site now and it would will be easier if I just do it all myself. When changes to this site start, I will notify you. There will be requests for art cars there and the contact info for you to attend each event. Please post your birthday on the calendar. Events: Atomic Dog Day at the Orange Show - Saturday, September 29th, 1-4pm. See the calendar for details. Trader's Village Annual Art Car Show- You are expected there 930am till 430pm. Each car will get $5 for lunch. http://www.tradersvillage.com/en/houston/event&e=43&t=6th-Village-Art-Car-Show David Haim has graciously volunteered to lead a caravan from the Art Car Museum out to Trader's Village. He will lead you from there at 9am SHARP! Please drop him an email and let him know you plan on caravaning with him - dhaim@bechtel.com This is THE ONE event where we all get to hang out and visit with each other. Bring everything you need. If you'd like to reserve a Trader's Village table to sell your items, please contact Bryan at santaclauscar@sbcglobal.net There is plenty of electrical outlets for you to bring and watch your TV, light up your car, etc, etc... Kirk Suddreath's band, The Defenestration Unit, will be playing in 30 minute sets with 30 minute breaks... something new we're going to try to have music out there long thru the day. Thank you Kirk! WE STILL NEED ART CARS FOR THIS EVENT. PLEASE EMAIL BRYAN AT SANTACLAUSCAR@SBCGLOBAL.NET TO SIGN UP. WE NEED FIFTY CARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! World Art Car Day - Saturday, November 10, all day Breakfast location TBA. The vote at the meeting tonight was that a free breakfast was not as important as a venue that would showcase and advertise our cars. Please, everyone, look around for a new breakfast venue for our WACD breakfast. We will be asking the Art Car Museum if they will again be hosting a free workshop for kids to make their very own miniature art cars. Volunteering for this event is so much fun and we'd love to see more of you out there encouraging the kids, helping them, creating our future art car artists... and getting the car decorating back into the hands of the kids whose parent has taken over cuz he/she is just having too much fun and can't help but take over their kid's project. If you haven't seen this in person, it's worth donating your time that day. It's SO funny! An Illuminated Cruise is a must for our WACD evening event. No plans have been made re route, who will make it, who will lead it yet. More info and organization will follow regarding this day after our next big event at Trader's Village. Maker Faire in Austin - November 17 I know we got a request for art cars, I know I sent it out, but it never ended up on the calendar. There are some art cars going, some art car artists going, but I have no info about this event or if more art cars are needed or wanted. When/if I get this info, it will be passed on to you. New Year's Eve - December 31st at Kennywood That was the vote, to keep it there. As Bryan put it, we couldn't get away with 1/2 the stuff we do on NYE anywhere else in town. Kennywood is looking better and better. Ken Crimmins' 50th birthday party this past Saturday was a blast (literally with Drakka blowing fire), and the site is sporting all kinds of new art and seating. At our meeting tonight we were honored to have Big Al Bettis join us. He has volunteered to provide music at this year's Party. !!!!!!!!!! He will bring with him a number of outstanding local musicians, guaranteeing this New Year's Eve Party to be our best ever musically. Remember, no driving drunk, and you are responsible for the behavior of any guest you bring. THANK YOU BIG AL BETTIS FOR VOLUNTEERING YOUR TALENTS AND PLAYING WITH US THAT EVENING!! General news of interest, decisions made, discussions, etc.... Sad news - our dear friend Dawn Fudge, owner of Last Concert Cafe, lost her mother recently. Our sincerest condolences Dawn. Happy news - Sue Sheffman of Harmony, the Hippo car, is a new grandmother! Her Granddaughter was born 8 weeks ago. Congratulations Sue!  She also has plans on donating Harmony to the Houston Zoo and is working on creating her newest hippo art car with Tom Kennedy, artist of Ripper the Friendly Shark, among other art cars and buses, who used to live here in Houston.More happy news - Welcome to our newest Houston Art Car Klub member, Jake Goldstein, of The Von Tiki. Relocating from California, he brought his awesome art car with him. www.thevontiki.com We're so happy you're here!  A vote was cast and the news is in: Everyone likes the idea of a HACK T-shirt that says "please don't tease the psychos" on the front, and a picture of our HACK license plate on the back. I'll get to work on that asap!  Bonnie read a letter from Paulette Pearlman discussing her concern about some negative behavior of an art car artist or two at an event in Florida. We all discussed this at the meeting and stand by our (loose) code of ethics which is, "respect your host " and "respect your host town and its values". The behavior was not from a Houston art car artist, but it does bring the concern our way as we would hate to see art car events cancelled around the country. The behavior of a few can have a negative impact on the art car community as a whole. No names were given, no specifics of the "offense(s)", but worth mentioning here as the art car community as a whole grows larger across the country. A big thank you to all who attended tonight's meeting. If you're there, you get to vote on what happens at our events and the decisions that are made on/to our Klub. Drive happy!
