Thank you sooo much to all who came out and attended.  As I mentioned in earlier emails, there was a very important vote to be made and I will post all info here in these minutes – so here we go!:First, I wanted to talk about calendar events to make sure everyone is aware of what’s on there and what’s coming. Please remember to refer to the HACK Calendar frequently as it has MANY events in which you might want to participate. 1. Bonnie Blue : next Thursday on Great Day Houston with Debra Duncan, show dedicated all to the Rodeo Feb 26th and the show starts at 9 am on ch 11. 2. Grotto – Go here for all details and info: www.sdcproductions.net – 2/27/-9-3/1/09 – Inks Lake State Park and Longhorn Caverns – near Burnet TX – the site has the info. REDUCED TICKET PRICES FOR ALL ART CAR ARTISTS, enter code “artcar23” when paying and get your tix for $45 each. Art cars have special placement in the parking area by the Caverns, so you must email Matt (the event producer) and tell him if you will be bringing your art car: mscherzinger@hotmail.com 3. 24 Hours of Lemons – Feb 28-Mar1 - needs to be put on HACK calendar please!! Contact Richard if you are interested in taking your art car to Angleton for this event next weekend. Message already forwarded to you from him. 4. HEB Bayou City Classic – 3/14/09 – 7a-11a - 30 min drive in front of the runnners, then parking at end until finish. The runners vote for first, second and third place art cars. $20 gas money to all participants IF YOU REGISTER WITH HIM. roger.boak@gmail.com $200 first place, $100 second, $50 third. 5. St. Patrick’s Day Parade – 3/14/09 – Johnny Rojas got us in! Line up at 11am at Minute Maid Park, entry fee $20 per car, $5 per skater. Be ready to show proof of auto insurance; NO open containers allowed. Contact Johnny if you want to participate: Johnny@Rojas.net 6. br-IDES of March – Please contact Evelyn at evelyn@partycars.net if you want to play. Pretty much Santa Rampaging but as brides, and the first day of activities will be March 14. She wasn’t at the meeting, I was hoping for more details! 7. Roller Derby – March 21 – see calendar 8. Big Al’s Crawfish Boil – 4/4/09 – please see HACK calendar for details 9. Worldfest – 4/17/09 - Art cars roll in the parking lot of the AMC Dunvale theater as part of the opening night of Houston's International film festival. If interested, contact Dennis at ddillo (at) verizon (dot) net. Free pass to all movies for this long event if you participate! 10. Batton Rouge Art Car Parade – 5/2/09 – the weekend before Houston’s Art Car Parade – please see HACK calendar for details and contact info. 11. St. Luke’s Day School, Tues March 10, 930-1130; Winchester Elementary Expo, March 12, 10-2; Cornelius Science and Engineering Academy, March 13, 1-5p – they are begging for art cars. Please go to calendar for contact info I won’t be putting HACK calendar events in meeting minutes again, it’s way too time consuming.  Besides, that’s what the calendar is for! If you aren’t using it, maybe seeing these entries will give you more incentive to look, and to add yours.Thank you to Ken Crimmins for entering Chili into the Odd Fellows Chili cookoff a couple of weekends ago on behalf of HACK.  We won the “Most likely to make you TOOT” award. !! Too cool! He has sent me a copy of the winning certificate and I will post it on our website as soon as it’s available for publishing – it’s in a server maintainence state right now. But thank you so much Ken!All this time, since last year’s Parade Day, Ms. Shelley Buschur’s name has been mis-spelled on her BBBMA plaque.  She notified me almost 3 months ago and I finally got the plaque last week. She got it tonight at the meeting.  Speaking of BBBMA, it’s that time of year again. Next month I will send out an email asking for nominees.  FYI – Johnny Rojas is on the Art Car Parade Weekend’s Steering Committee, not his first year, but if you didn’t know that already, I wanted you to. He does a lot of work behind the scenes to help out, not only cooking and serving our breakfast at the Brunch.  So does Paul Spanna whom most of us never see until Parade Day. Paul is not only the Parade Chair again this year, but has also agreed to be the Art Car Steering Committee Chair person this year – talk about helping out BIG TIME!! I am in constant communication with the Orange Show staff regarding art car weekend. I went over a number of details about why the parade is run the way it is – too much for meeting minutes.  The Orange Show is open to all your questions if I can’t answer them for you or you would rather just go to them, you can email or call them any time. And they say stop by any time and say hi, they love to see you guys!  Orange Show Art Car Weekend events: 1. May 8 – Main Street Drag 2. May 8 – Sneak Peek at Discover Green 3. May 9 – Art Car Parade 4. May 9 – possible post parade tailgater at the Orange Show 5. May 10 – Tom Jones Memorial Brunch and Awards Ceremony (hopefully at the Art Car Museum) HACK events: 1. May 6 – Welcome to Houston Party 2. May 9 – Illuminated Cruise (I’m hoping Kenny Browning (thank you in advance!) will again be making the route, as his routes ROCK, but I’m also hoping we’ll be driving the same route we did on WACD, it was awesome.) There is no more parking allowed on the median at the ACMuseum per the City. They’ve looked away for a long time now. It’s not “encouraged” any more. Might want to start the Illuminated Cruise elsewhere this year – you will be informed! Hummmm….. looks like Thursday, May 7 was going to be empty huh? If you were at the meeting you already know the vote – again, thank you for coming out, listening to all the details and voting on a decision. Thursday May 7 will be a public Art Car Party – to be named, everyone at the meeting says it should be named the Art Car Ball – funded and produced entirely by Ken Crimmins at his property we all know as Kennywood. This event will be open and publicized to the general public. A flier will go in each parade packet. Every art car artist who attends, for the whole event, will get 2 wrist bands that will get you $1 beer, soda and water, and private entrance into a food room where you can drink sodas and water for free and eat some food. This event will be insured, staffed, manned with hired security, extra lighting provided for art cars, generators, music, etc. Kennywood is being cleared out for space, art cars will park inside and outside at the loading dock and around the side of the building. Art cars not attending the entire time of the party – ends at 11p – will be parked in the grassy area outside so they can leave when they want. There will be 6-8 beer stations, 6 porta cans. Tix will be sold in advance. The money will run thru a non-profit that is not the Orange Show, whose entire existence is to produce art events and projects. Once money is recouped from producing the event, the excess will go into that non-profit labeled for art car events. IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE IN ANY WAY, YOU WILL NEED TO FILL OUT A FORM. I will forward those forms to you in another email. This includes, but is not limited to, bango players, bands that want to play, fire spinners, jugglers, fashion shows, ANY AND ALL SHOOTING OF FIRE, firecracker hats, etc, etc, etc…. He must know what you’d like to do so he can set up a schedule. I will forward emails to you from Ken regarding anything I might have put in here that is wrong and extra info for you to know. He’s going to take on producing this event (feels like some of the Weekend’s “magic” was lost when this public event stopped) and wants it planned out in advance, so let’s help him with more than just showing up with our cars. (The vote was not only unanimous, it was with great enthusiasm that he would take on this huge project!)OUR NEXT MEETING WILL BE SUNDAY, MARCH 22 – Big Star Bar loves having us, they even turn the music off and no one has told me they’d rather have our meetings somewhere else. Dark Horse is used for our weekly HH and became too noisy. If you have a huge objection to the Star Bar please email me an alternate location. If I get more than 10 objections via email I’ll put it to the group as whole, but make sure you make a suggestion or two of alternate locations.
